The day has arrived…that’s right, the day we start living like we are penniless for a week.  The day where we see big changes in our finances and mindsets. The day that will be the start of a new financial beginning!

I know it seems a bit over-the-top of an introduction, but often times, this can be a turning point for many people in their financial journey! It was for us many years ago and continues to be so today.  We told you about this a couple of days ago to help you get ready, but now it is time to do it!

So just what exactly are we talking about?

Well, it’s the time of year when we challenge ourselves and our readers to have a week without spending anything.  No reckless spending, no dollar drink here, no eating out there – just plain and simply – penniless! At the end of seven days, many of our readers have had several hundred dollars more in their bank accounts.  This was a major jumpstart and turning point for many, just by sacrificing a little for those seven days.

It is a real eye-opener too! We often don’t realize the needless and reckless spending that is so easily committed and hidden from our minds.  But this week becomes a mental exercise and helps you to start seeing those places you spend without even realizing it.

Now whenever we do this we usually get a few questions (or comments) on why this won’t work for your family – or even why this whole principle won’t work at all.  But before you give up and write us off, we ask that you check out our Penniless Week Challenge page so you at least hear our responses.  They just might change your mind, your week, and get you one baby step closer to your financial goals:

  • This is a really bad week for us because of _________ (fill in your own holiday, event, or more).
  • We have this challenge covered already as we already live penniless every week…
  • I don’t understand how you save money – don’t you just spend more before or after the week?

You’ll see that we do have rules and exceptions.  You’ll see that this isn’t the same as many live every week.  You’ll even see why this works – and can encourage your family in your financial goals.  As you start to understand this challenge more you will see how fun, exciting, and freeing this challenge can be!

How does this fit into the Take Back Your Finances Challenge?

Now remember we are a week into the Get $1,000 in 30 Days challenge.  Have you seen any progress yet towards your savings?  Maybe you need a little push?

This challenge is designed to help you take that next step – that next push – to get you even closer to that $1,000 goal!

The goal is to accomplish – at the very least – the following two goals:

  1. Anywhere in your budget that you spent less will go into your savings – We have shared our budget with you before – so this week when we spend less than we have allocated, every penny will go towards our $1,000 goal.
  2. Any excess spending we skip this next week will go towards your savings as well – As you’re about to get that dollar drink or go out for a quick bite at lunch this upcoming week – don’t and put it into your savings instead!

So will you join us?  Will you take a leap and see what your family can accomplish – in even just a week’s time?

>>>> Check out Penniless Week – then join us! <<<<

We look forward to hearing how your week is going, what you learned and what you saved! These testimonies are always our favorite as we hear about life-changes taking place.
