Hi there – it’s the Thrifty Kids again! We get to post a project here and there and so mom and dad said we could post this project that we made up as we were trying to find homemade Valentine’s holders. We had made paper plate baskets before for other projects, but we also realized that this was heart-shaped. So we just added a bit of tissue paper fringe and we had a cute basket that mom and dad didn’t have to spend a lot of time or money on..in fact, we just gathered supplies around the house and didn’t cost them anything extra.

Each of us kids made one, even the little kids.  It was really easy and a fun craft.

Here’s how to make Paper Plate Heart Shaped Valentine’s Holder

Supplies (we didn’t take a picture of our supplies, but you’ll see them all in the steps)

  • 2 paper plates per holder
  • Stapler and staples
  • glue
  • Tissue paper
  • Chenille stem

To make:

step-1-heart-paper-plate

Make a semi-fold on the bottom of one of the paper plates like the picture shows.

Do the same thing to a second paper plate, tucking it inside the first.

Then put a staple at the top on both sides.

Staple both plates together at the bottom. Now you have your basket holder base.

Using Valentine colored tissue paper, cut strips from the tissue paper.

Then cut the strips into squares so you have a good pile of tissue paper squares to work with!

Scrunch up and glue each piece of tissue paper in any design you want. We lined the rims of our basket holders.

Staple on the chenille stem for the handle.

Then your basket is finished! Take it with you to collect your Valentines!

Thanks for letting us come by mom and dad’s blog and share our project with you! Us sisters actually made some delicious cookies from some bulk dehydrated fruits that mom had in the pantry.  She said we can share our cookie creation soon!
