It’s that time again! Time to share our next patriotic recipe.
Have you ever had crinkle cookies? They are so delicious, yet so easy because they are made using a cake mix. They also look really cool.
When you dye the dough into different colors and then roll them in the sugar and bake – they “crinkle” and look quite cool too. In fact, they are perfect for the 4th of July because they almost look like fireworks in a cookie…like “bombs bursting in air.” Don’t you think?
Anyway, these are also super simple. Most of the recipes we share and post (with exceptions for special occasions of course) are simple, fast and frugal recipe solutions. This is one of them because it uses a cake mix, which you can get at the grocery store for around $1. Then add a couple of eggs, a bit of oil and sugar and you have a homemade version – something that would cost a lot more from the store!
Well, let’s dive in and learn how to quickly and easily you can have a themed treat at your next party!
Ingredients needed for Patriotic Crinkle Cookies:
- 1 box white cake mix (I used Duncan Hines)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Red and blue food gel/coloring
How to make Patriotic Crinkle Cookies:
1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
3. In a medium mixing bowl, add the cake mix, oil and eggs. Mix with a spoon until well incorporated (the cookie dough will be very sticky).
4. Using 3 smaller bowls, divide up the dough into three equal parts.
5. In one bowl, add 3 drops red food gel. In the second bowl, add 2 drops blue food gel. The third bowl does not need any food coloring.
6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate the 3 bowls of cookie dough for an hour.
7. Scoop the powdered sugar into a shallow bowl.
7. Once chilled, form the cookie dough into 1 inch balls.
8. Roll each 1 inch ball into the powdered sugar and place on the cookie sheet. Be sure to position them at least 1 inch apart for expansion.
9. Bake for 10 minutes exactly or the powdered sugar will start to brown.
10. Let the cookies cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to completely cool.
11. ENJOY!!
