We must say, guacamole is one of our absolute favorite foods EVER! We love to buy the big family bags of tortilla chips strips from Costco for cheap and can snack and make meals out of this $3 bag for a whole week, especially for quick lunches – healthier nachos with black beans, fresh tomatoes and a bit of cheese – but then you add this delicious guacamole, which only takes a few minutes to whip together and you have the perfect, healthish, refreshing meal or superb snack!
Guacamole is super easy to make. Many years ago, I didn’t realize it! Then we went to a restaurant that made fresh guacamole in front of you at your table. As I watched…I was like “seriously, it was that easy” and that fresh guacamole was the best tasting of any store-bought ever.
So I never buy it as it is always overpriced (unless it is a super deal and cheaper than avocados, but not often!). Avocados are so good for you, especially kids with the healthy fats that they need for brain and body growth! Our family could probably live on avocados. 🙂
Anyway, enough praise for the might Avocado, let’s get down to business and whip up some quick, awesome guac!
How to Make Fresh Chunky Guacamole
Ingredients for homemade guacamole:
- 3 avocados – peeled and pitted
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 cup diced onion
- 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 pinch of cayenne pepper
Directions:
1. Place avocado in a medium bowl. Using a sharp knife, slice it into chunks.
2. Add lime juice, salt, cilantro, tomatoes, cayenne pepper and garlic into the bowl.
3. Use a fork to gently combine ingredients, being careful not to over mix.
4. Refrigerate for 45 minutes to combine flavors, and then serve. But sometimes we can’t wait that long and it’s still amazingly delicious!
