Oh WOW – you have just entered a brand new dessert territory! Combining Peeps with dough and frying for a whole new take on DONUTS! And let me assure you, this is amazing.

I am a donut (or doughnut ;)) connoisseur. It’s been my favorite treat since I was little. And it is obviously a favorite of many since there are entire restaurant chains dedicated to them!

BUT…there are no peeps donuts that I am aware of. Even after a Google search. But we had the idea for Peeps doughnuts long before we did our search. My kids are so smart and they have so much fun making creations of all kinds. We’ve made homemade donuts before and after seeing the Peeps in the store, it hit us… PEEPS DONUTS!

And so we created this amazing recipe. We tried it many times and have the tips to make the perfect ones to share.

Now this may sound delicious, but let me explain that these are far more delicious than you can imagine – I mean look at that gooey, melty, marshmallowy center. Taking a bite into a fluffy, light, fried morsel, only to be met with a gooey Peeps center that all melts and melds into your mouth makes for one amazing treat!

Well, the better news is that this is cheap and easy to make and only requires a few ingredients.

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Peeps Stuffed Donuts:

  • 1 can of biscuits
  • Peeps
  • Frying oil
  • Sugar (color is fine)

That’s it on the ingredients!

How To make Homemade Peeps Stuffed Donuts:

  • Flatten the biscuit dough. You want it flattened quite thin.
  • Wrap a Peep in a thin layer of the dough. IMPORTANT: you want a thin layer and so from one biscuit, you will be able to get at least 2-3 donuts. If you have a lot of overlapping or thick dough, your Peeps doughnuts will be doughy in the middle and burned on the outside.
  • Once it is wrapped, pinch all open ends and seams very well. This is another important step. If your open ends and seams are not sealed well, then your melted peeps will seep out and not be as tasty or pretty.
  • Heat oil over medium-low heat. Test the oil by tossing in a small piece of dough. If it “sizzles” and starts turning brown instantly, then your oil is hot enough.
  • Place your Peeps Donuts into the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until nice and golden brown. This is generally around 3 sides. Do not over fry as it will burn and the marshmallow will eventually seep through, even through well sealed doughnuts. Marshmallow expands as it is heated.
  • Place on a paper towel to absorb some of the oil. Then, when cool enough to handle, but only a minute or two after taking out of the fryer, roll it in sugar. Note that you can use any kind of sugar. We chose blue and pink colored sugar because we had it on hand, but regular white works just as well and is pretty too!
  • Note that a 5 pack of jumbo biscuits will make 10-12 Peeps Donuts!

This video shows the quick, easy, delicious process in just a minute and shows you exactly what we mean in the steps above.

Now enjoy these delicious morsels of goodness. 🙂 Are you going to give this a try?
