We know these desires and dreams all too well. In fact, we were one of those couples who “wished” and “dreamed” the same thing. And we NEVER thought any of these things would be possible at any point in our lives.
In fact, we were over $100k in consumer debt, going in the red each month, unable to pay extra on any of our debts, paying $1,200 a month JUST IN INTEREST (remember, this is consumer debt, not even talking about a mortgage) and according to all of the intelligent debt payment calculators, at the rate we were going, it was going to take us 64 years to pay off our debts!

That meant we’d likely be dead before our debts were paid, let alone enjoy a single day of financial freedom and independence.
But, by God’s grace, hard work and the 2% rule, we managed to dig ourselves out of a hopeless situation and find ourselves debt-free in 7 years. It’s quite a story, which is why we wrote a book about it. But in the end, it took us 3.5 years of struggling with popular “get out of debt plans” to only pay of $15k of the $108k debts and massive frustration, to finally land on the 2% Rule To Get Debt Free Fast which propelled us to be able to pay off the remaining over $90k in the second 3.5 year cycle. Today, we still follow the 2% rule to continue down our path of financial independence to meet our financial goals.
