We’ve mentioned ThredUp before on our site.  In fact, we also mentioned it as a tip to save that was featured in the July issue of ALL YOU magazine (pictured above)!

Well, since then, they have now decided to make this a no-brainer kind of used clothing opportunity by not only allowing free membership, but they are giving you a FREE $10 to spend on their site for trying them out! This is FANTASTIC news, especially if you are a family of 7 with 5 little kids like us who go through clothing so quickly! This free $10 will make for some free clothing.  It also will help to cover shipping, so if you find a lower priced item around $3-$4, you can walk away with paying nothing for a gently used high quality clothing item (like the example of these shirts below – there are thousands of options!)

Registration is easy and FREE. It is important that you verify your registration by checking your email immediately after and clicking on the link to verify your FREE membership and to get your free $10 credit to spend to and enjoy the freebies or really, really low clothing deals you can get!

Also, you can share your referral link with your friends via email, Facebook, etc. and you will both be rewarded with credits! Just click on the “My Account” tab and then click on share to send your friends a $10 credit and get some credit yourself for doing so!

Ummmm…. No it’s not that easy. What ThreadUP really is is you order a box of clothing for your child and it comes to you smelling so musty, moldy and mildewy and you can can’t get the smell out of the items even with bleach, sunning, multiple washings (9 to be exact). So you wind up being out a batch of money with nothing usable in your hands and their customer service says “AWWW… sorry that happened to you…better luck next time…” not cool 🙁

Hi Kim – that experience must have been a huge disappointment. I am disappointed to hear about that! Yes, they have done (and maybe still do) whole box exchanges. That was their original plan, but now you can buy individual items as needed and you don’t have to exchange. After hearing about your experience, this idea above is even better as then everyone can buy just an item or two and not pay anything to “test it out.” I would imagine that some clothes are better than others (even in the smell) as they are all used clothes. One musty smelly item probably ruined the whole batch. I am thinking that perhaps they changed things up as they probably did receive a number of complaints about the “batch” of clothing exchanged and perhaps just an online consignment working with each individual clothing item instead is a better and easier way to deal with complaints (individual items rather than a whole batch). Also, if you think about it, when dealing with a whole batch, they were probably trying to make the customer feel happy by getting many items in the batch including items that may be not so gently used whereas now you and they can be quite picky. Thank you for sharing your experience as that helps us all!

I like your website. It is very nice. I love to shop online. I buy a lot of my clothing online. I have bookmarked your website for my friends and familie. Will come back to visit for updates.
