HELP FOR HAITI

Haiti Earthquake

Over the last few days, we have been lifting up those affected by the tragedy in Haiti in our prayers. The numbers of missing continue to grow and those that have survived the initial tragedy are dealing with the loss of family, friends, and everything they own.

Many in the blogging community are reaching out to offer a helping hand to those in need. We, as The Thrifty Couple, consider it a blessing to save so much (using the tips we write about here) so we can more freely have the ability to give to others in time of need. We would like to encourage each of you to consider how you can help as well! We encourage each of you to pray on how you can help and especially pray for those that are affected by this tragedy.

We are offering a link below for you to post a link to your blog on how you are offering to help those in need! For each link (to a post that details how you are helping those in Haiti) we will donate $1 (up to $200 total!) by January 21, 2010. If you don’t have a blog to link to, please leave a comment detailing how you and your family are helping and we will donate $0.25. That money will be donated to Compassion International which is providing Disaster Relief in Haiti!

Money Saving Mom has organized and is hosting this event. Please visit her blog as there are more opportunities to donate!

Please consider giving to this ministry, to your denomination’s established fund, or any other group that might provide assistance for these in need!

http://www.just1dollar4haiti.org/ is the website specifically for earthquake relief for the nonprofit Haiti Cheri Havest Life Ministries (www.haiticheri.org). They are an mission organization that partners with Haitian people to improve their quality of life (education, food, medical, etc). Any money donated now goes to earthquake relief. You can check out the website for a link to up-to-date info and correspondence from Haitian friends about the earthquake and effects, and you can make tax-deductible contributions securely online. You are right that every little bit helps- most Haitian people live on less per day than we can scrape out of the ashtray for a Coke in the drive-thru. Having done mission work in Haiti, I have seen first-hand the desolation of everyday life forthe Haitian people. This epic disaster is truly heartbreaking, and the long-term consequences are beyond what I can even fathom. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your generosity.

We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed–I can’t imagine the losses of the Haitian people.

We donated our weekly grocery budget of $50 to the Red Cross. I’m visiting as many blogs as I can that are participating in raising $$ for Haiti by having their readers either post a comment or a link. I am happy to see it looks like many others are doing the same.

We’ve been collecting pop cans (refundable deposit) to donate $ to others–this is what we’ll be giving the money to! Our church (www.freemethodistchurch.org) denominationally has several missionaries in Haiti (three are still missing in the debris–please pray for their recovery!) and is able to give 100% of the donations to help the people!
Thanks for your work in this, too!

Our family is sending up prayers to the One who can do the most!!
Our church also took and sent contributions in and we bought tickets at Hope for Hati!
My heart breaks especially for the little ones affected. We truly are blessed and I am thankful that we are able to bless others in return!

I am encouraging people I know to participate in visiting these blogs — in addition to helping in this tragedy it is also away to find some great new blogs ! I work with for an organization serving homeless and at-risk families with kids – and sites on saving money, frugal living etc.. are very useful ! Yours looks great
