Starting today and through May 1st 2013, you can get some great deals on organic, natural and whole foods from Vitacost. I have mentioned Vitacost a few times, including most recently for the 7 Best Essential Oils for cleaning. We’ve also mentioned that Vitacost is one of our go-to grocery stores. It is like an online Whole Foods/Trader Joe’s, but with Amazon’s prices. So when there is a further discount, it is a SUPER time for us to stock-up on our non-perishable foods, household and personal care items that would normally cost quite a bit buying them in-store in town somewhere.
So they have a sale where you will save another 15% on the most popular food products. There are hundreds of items in this sale! The discount is already reflected in the prices and as you can see, there is a retail price, a Vitacost Price and then the 15% off sale price.
There is no coupon code needed! See this example on the Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free and Wheat-Free Pizza Crust Mix as the example.
I usually end up doing an order about every 4-6 weeks from Vitacost with my grocery money from our $20K living expenses budget and more specifically a portion of the $125 weekly food budget for a family of 7 trying to eat natural, organic and whole foods diet. I buy the sale items at the time and usually by a handful of them to also put in storage. I have purchased a bit of everything from Vitacost as I have been shopping there for a couple of years. BUT…I thought it would be fun or at least interesting to see some pics from our spice cabinet and our basement storage (which ended up being really dark bad pictures as there is no light and the camera light wasn’t enough!) but at least you can maybe get some ideas on what to buy – one picture I did not take was our pasta, rice and quinoa shelf that many came from Costco, many from Amazon, but also many from Vitacost as they have some pretty good prices on those too!
Our spices from Vitacost up in our kitchen! I love the Starwest Botanicals brand of bulk spices. I then recycle my glass food jars (from pasta sauce, pickles, and even have my organic garlic in a recycled Franks Red Hot Sauce bottle – these are perfect for ground spices) and then just refill the glass jars with the bulk supply. It works out very well and I hardly have to buy spices. I also love Real Salt, Bragg’s and Simply Organic brands too.
This is my spices and oil storage in the basement, they have Spectrum oils and many other brands. They even have their own generic brands which are even cheaper (and my giant bottle of Frank’s from Costco – Alex and I could drink this stuff :))!
And I am so sorry for these terrible pictures….It was so dark with one little light in the room. But these are my grains, beans, wheat germ, chia seeds, flax seeds, flours and more which are mostly all organic too and a super price. My favorite brands are Arrowhead Mills and Bob’s Red Mill.
As a former “extreme type couponer” (even though the real show is not real at all), my cereal shelves would be appalling to any seasoned couponer with how empty they are right now. Everyone knows that if you are good at couponing, you have cereal coming out of your eyeballs. Well, I use to have a 5-shelf shelving unit stuffed as full as possible with quadruple stacking. But since then and since trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle, I have gotten very picky about cereal and very picky about what I let my kids eat. Which is why cereal is no longer a ever flowing commodity in our home and we have many alternative breakfasts in our “Building Better Breakfasts” page. And they other reason why we rarely eat cereal is that the milk we now buy is much more expensive too! So this is my very slim and teeny cereal collection now 🙂 But Vitacost has good prices on many of those too!
Anyway, if you are wanting to start or add to your healthier foods options, then we recommend using $50 of your grocery budget buy some foods from Vitacost now through May 1st for the automatic extra 15% off on many, many foods. The reason for $50 is that shipping is free when you spend $49 (otherwise it is $4.99).
I actually haven’t ordered from Vitacost in about 6-7 weeks, so I am doing my foods order today too.
STOP…. IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME BUYER TO VITACOST… you will want to do this too as you will get further discounts! New customers get a FREE $10 to spend with orders of $30 or more. This is great news for you as you will get another $10 off!! You can use it on the foods, or you can use it on the 7 oils we shared previously to make now 26 homemade cleaners.
