I make smoothies for my boys…fast and easy, using fresh or frozen strawberries, sometimes with banana, peaches, mango, etc. A good way to get a serving of fruit in them, and a great way to start the day!

Breakfast Tip: This is actually from my “Body for Life” days…make sure you have a protein in your breakfast! I think this is one thing that is often forgotten! The best proteins are eggs (cheap!), but cottage cheese, peanut butter etc. are also good. I love whole wheat waffles smeared with peanut butter and topped with sliced banana!Just make sure you balance your carbs and proteins, and you’ll be set for the day with lots of energy!

I always have fruit on hand so that no matter what they eat they at least get something healthy. Also, we sometimes have breakfast for dinner and I always make left over so there is breakfast for the next two mornings.

I like to pick a day every month that the kids are at school and make a couple batches of muffins, breakfast burritos, and egg mcmuffins. That way on really hectic morning I can just pull that out of the freezer. I also like to buy steel cut oats, but them in the crockpot at night and then in the morning I have nice hot oatmeal, with no work.

My husband switches things up with quesadillas for breakfast – throw 2 tortillas in the toaster oven with some cheese in between. Add some meat or veggies for extra flavor and nutrients!

I have started what I call the basket system. I placed a big basket in the corner on my countertops. I put several different varieties of breakfast foods and snacks in it. My girls have learned to just grab a granola bar or pop tart out of the basket and go. I do that with school lunches as well. They can pick a snack for school and a snack for their school lunches. Makes my days alot easier!

Absolutely do not skip breakfast. I wake up the kiddos, lay them down on the coach and then give them two choices. While they are waking up, I make their breakfast for them.

I HATE mornings!! Usually do not fee awake until almot neoon π I’ve become a huge fan of making stuff ahead of time: pancakes, waffles, healthy muffins, etc… and then freezing them. We are blessed with a huge freezer. The kiddos also love yogurt tubes (stock up on sales of gogurt, etc…) and their new favorite is Special K with straberries (bought on sale) with frozen blueberries in it.
Meg
Ooops that was “almost noon”

I am a single father, so I have to prepare food for my 2 kids before sending them off to school (while I go off to work). Sometimes I would fry 2 quick eggs sunny side up and serve it over toast w/ orange juice (or milk) and give them an apple and banana to go. They love honey nut cheerios and yogurt on other days; it’s nice to mix it up. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and they need a good serving of nice healthy carbs/protein as well as fruit! Eggs/toast and yogurt are really cheap too. I pre-stock up on cereal when they’re on sale (2 fo $5 coupons, etc.). A good quick, healthy breakfast is essential. I’ve seen what kids eat in schools nowadays and it’s not good.

Breakfast!! My favorite. My tips:
Oatmeal. π
I like to make homemade waffles and pancakes in big batches and freeze them for a quick breakfast that is also healthy, because I make them 100% whole grain. Whole wheat pastry flour is usually a reasonable price, and it makes excellent pancakes and waffles.
Also, we eat a ton of eggs. They are super, super cheap, quick to fry up, and nutritious. The protein keeps the kids (and me!) going longer than just grains.
And the bread for the toast comes from the Sara Lee bakery outlet, where I get 100$ whole wheat, good quality loaves for $1.
