Today’s is awesome!

It looks expensive and it looks like it could be a lot of work, but….. it’s neither!

Make a fabric covered bench for less than $10! The original idea was from a friend who pinned the picture, but after a Google search and several links later, we found the original home and this version is a kids one, but the same concept done with any potential bench!  The original poster has more details on her bench on The Mother Huddle Blog.

Here’s how!

  • Buy a board and 4 legs/rail legs all for less than $5 at Home Depot/Lowes.
  • Buy enough fabric and batting to cover and staple on the underside of the bench (around $2ish or cheaper with coupons). You can also use any fabric you already have.  This will save you even more!
  • Staple the fabric around the bench and you are done!
  • Then paint the legs with spray paint ($3ish) and attach to the board.

Now the cost of the supplies will vary based on what you personally prefer, but that gives you an idea.

Also, if you already have a bench or buy a used one at a garage or rummage sale, you can do the same thing!  Also, old coffee, small kitchen tables (with legs cut down), and the square side tables would also be a good alternative.

You can find fabric to match any current decor in any room.  It is a very easy DIY project and a very useful one too!

What do you think of this idea?  Have you ever tried this or will you try it?

Any idea how tall the legs are? How wide is the top of the legs? I want to make a bench, but when I google it it says normal benches are about 16-18″ high. When I take into account the top board and cushion, I would think the legs need to be around 12-14″, but I can’t find any legs that height, or if I do, they seem thin… More info please, I would love to make this. Thanks for the great idea. 🙂

I’m just wondering where you found the legs for under 5 dollars? At Home Depot each leg was about $5…

I am trying to figure out how you attach the legs after upholstering the top. Don’t the legs have to be attached with screws from the top down?

If you buy the legs from Home Depot, there are screw plates (I think that is what they are called) that go with the actual legs. I tried attaching mine without luck, went back to the store and the worker explained I should have brought them together! Went home, attached the plates and voila! my bench was done! Hope this helps!

Please provide the legs your found and size of board that made your purchase at Home Depot be $5. Because I have yet to see any furniture legs or boards total $5 at lowes or home Home Depot.
