Candy Turkey Treat Bags for Thanksgiving

These cute Candy Turkey Treat Bags for Thanksgiving with Reese’s Pieces would be fun for place cards at a Thanksgiving table, or for a Thanksgiving party, even as a fun Thanksgiving activity for kids.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, you may be like me and trying to find some new and fun activities and creative treats for the season. I have posted a few ideas like this each year, and so I want to continue the tradition here on our site just like we do at home.

You might notice a trend in many of the activities, crafts, holiday themed crafts or treats and that trend is cheap and easy, but cute! I have six kids and a super busy life. But I try to take moments for fun activities and to do these “little things” that make the season more fun. It’s a win-win-win-win for everyone – me-my kids-my budget-my time.

Also, when it comes to materials, I got the tulle at Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon, and that was really the main “cost” of this project as the other items were minimal with the candy on sale, especially after Halloween!

So what materials are needed for the Candy Turkey Treat Bags for Thanksgiving with Reese’s Pieces?

  • Tulle (Use rectangle tulle from a roll or tulle pre-cut circles work as well)
  • Pipe cleaners (red, tan, orange and yellow)
  • Reese Pieces (or your favorite mix of candies in fall colors!)
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue (hot glue or another strong glue)
  • Scissors
  • Small clear hair elastics or clear loom bands
  • Optional: clear treat bags or sandwich bags

Directions for Candy Turkey Treat Bags for Thanksgiving:

1. Place candies in the middle of your tulle. {Tulle from a roll may be used (cut to 16”) or precut tulle circles.} Secure the tulle closed with a clear hair elastic. Leave the excess tulle on the back to create “feathers”
Optional: if you want extra protection for the candy, use a clear bag to place the treats in and then place the tulle over the top.

2. To form the turkey head, simply cut a tan pipe cleaner in half (approximately 6”). Start at one end, and roll the pipe cleaner until about 2 inches are left at the end.

3. Cut a 1” piece from an orange pipe cleaner and slide it through the outer coil of the tan pipe cleaner. Push the ends together to form a beak, and twist slightly so it stays together.

4. Cut a 2” piece from a red pipe cleaner. Simply wrap it over the top of the beak (facing down) and twist to create the wattle.

5. Glue the eyes onto the sides of the tan rolled pipe cleaner.

6. Cut a 6” piece from a yellow pipe cleaner. From the end into a “W” shape and bend the straight leftover end to form the leg/foot.

7. Lay the treat bag down (rubber band/excess tulle or “feathers” in the back) and press the head through the top and legs through the bottom/front of the tulle.

Then you can place these in a basket, on the table for each place setting, or just randomly all over for an edible festive tradition.
