Did you know that Applebee’s 2 for $20 meals now include steak?
As I write this, we get to look forward to date night tonight. Yes, it’s a big deal. I mean date night is nice for anyone, but date night OUT is a relatively new thing. We’ve only been able to have the chance to go out on the cheap the last couple of years.
You see, we have 6 kids, and they are all really close in age. That meant that hiring a babysitter for dinner, let alone a full date night, was quite pricey! But now we have two teens and a near third teen.
That means if we want to go to the grocery JUST THE TWO OF US, we can.
If we want to run to the hardware store for our latest project as JUST THE TWO OF US, we can.
If we want to go to dinner and a movie JUST THE TWO OF US, we can.
Are you starting to catch a theme here?
That’s why I am excited for our planned date night tonight.
So when I was researching where to go do make this date just right, I was excited to see what I stumbled upon.
Why? Because we love to save money, we love to eat good food.
Every parent who gets a date night dreams of enjoying a good ‘ol steak dinner. But the words “parents” and “steak dinner” rarely go together. Generally, we are at home figuring out how to make that mac & cheese a more gourmet entree’ with a few fix-ins while not upsetting the steady rhythm of the young mac and cheese lovers.
So yeah, I researched date night. One thing we have done for years was get Applebee’s To Go 2 for $20 meals. They still are 2 for $20 and they still include two full-size entrees and a full-size appetizer. It’s an amazing deal. We would order online and Alex would pick it up and we’d eat and enjoy “date night in.”
In fact, for years, you might have heard us talking about date night in because well…. do I need to remind you… we have 6 kids that are close in age and were quite young when we started this site. It’s crazy to think we have been blogging long enough and telling our savings stories long enough that these kids are growing up and a few of them already being the ones getting paid to babysit.
Well, we don’t have to do date night in anymore, we can actually go out easily, but I LOVED ordering and eating in those 2 for $20 meals! It’s such a great value.
So I looked it up and they have upgraded the menu! They actually now have steaks – yes an appetizer and two steak dinners for $20?!?
I saw it online:
The other awesome thing I spotted was that they are having a Twitter contest by submitting an image or video of their epic 2 for $20 date proposal on Twitter for a chance to win the ultimate date night experience at Applebee’s!
To participate – “propose” a steak dinner to your date and submit a picture or video on Twitter using the hashtag #2for20Contest and Applebee’s will be picking winners! Who knows, your steak dinner might be free! The contest runs through June 10th.
So of course I proposed “dinner” to Alex as we can go out and have a steak dinner night on a dime (with one of my favorite appetizers too!).
I will be back to tell you how it went!
We’re back!! We went last night!
We ordered two steak dinners and an appetizer of and only had to pay $20 plus tip!
These are full size entrees’ I wanted to show you how good of a value this is!
The 6 oz. Sirloin Steak entree is $12.99 and includes two sides. I didn’t take a picture of the sides, but they had a bunch of great sides from mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, fries, broccoli and garlicky green beans. I am actually attempting to eat less carbs, so I actually ordered a double serving of the garlicky green beans instead of two separate sides (because, well, I get tired of eating broccoli at home!). And it was a GREAT decision. So good!
The Spinach Artichoke Dip is $7.59 – so if we ordered all of these separately, the bill would have been $33.57.
It’s really just a thrifty date night out, especially for a steak dinner.
And if you are still in the “date night in” stage of parenting, you can still get this fabulous dinner at carside to go!
Don’t forget to tweet your picture of your dinner proposal with #2for20Contest for a chance to win the ultimate dinner experience from Applebees through June 10th!
Now do you know of any good movies?
