Apple Rose Pastries Desserts are awesome! The presentation in a flower alone is so amazing. But these are so awesome in fact, let me count the ways:

  1. They are frugal – with just a few simple ingredients, you have a gourmet dessert that will probably cost less than a box of cake mix!
  2. They are lighter in calories.
  3. They are easy to make, so easy that our 9 and 10 year old daughters actually made these from beginning to end!
  4. They are quick to make! Our girls made these pretty quickly, less than 1-hour from beginning to end, including the cooking time!
  5. They are tasty.  They have a nice fruity, pastry taste that is pleasing and pleasant.  It is not an over or under whelming taste – just perfect.
  6. They can be made gluten-free with the gluten free flour!
  7. They are GORGEOUS and would be amazing dessert presentation for any gathering – especially showers, teas, weddings.

In the end, these moved to the very top of our favorite desserts.  Our girls want to make them all of the time!

Well, let’s dive right into to make these beautiful Apple Rose Pastries Dessert.

Ingredients needed for Apple Rose Pastries Dessert:

  • 1 cup of flour (or the best ever gluten-free flour HERE for a GF version)
  • 1 red apple
  • 2 TBSP sugar
  • 1 TBSP honey
  • 3 TBSP water
  • 1/2 stick of butter, softened
  • Dashes of sugar and cinnamon for the finishing touch

How to make  Apple Rose Pastries Dessert

  • Slice the apple very thinly

  • Place the apple slices in the pot with the sugar, honey and water.

  • Cook on medium for about 5 minutes, or until the apples are soft. You will want to stir them gently as they cook.
  • Then pull the slices out and let them cool on a plate while you make the dough. *NOTE: keep the liquid in the pan as you will need this for the dough! Don’t drain or rinse it yet!

  • In a medium bowl, place the butter in the bowl and break it up a little.
  • Then add the 1 cup flour.
  • Then, using the “apple water” from the pan that you cooked the apples in, gather 3 TBSP of this water and add to the flour/butter mixture.
  • Mix the dough until smooth (by hand is best).

  • Then cut the dough in half.

halfing-dough-sm

  • With each half, roll the dough out into a square/rectangle approximately 6×10 inches.

  • Once you rolled it out to get it as square as possible, clean up the square by cutting the edges to make it “more square.”

  • Then, using a pizza cutter (knife works too), cut 1″ wide strips from about 10″ in length.  With this dough, each half should make about 5-6 flowers for 10-12 total flowers per batch.

  • Place 5-6 cooked apple slices on the strip of dough, overlapping slightly.

  • Then “roll up” the dough to form the rose!

  • Repeat with the second half of the dough.

  • Then bake for 15-18 minutes at 350 degrees. They will really not get brown.  You just want the dough cooked, but they won’t turn brown.

  • Pull them out of the oven, while still hot/warm, brush them with honey and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon!

  • Let them cool and serve later, but you can also serve them warm.  We have eaten them both ways and they are fabulous warm and cooled!

Our girls had a lot of fun making these, but also a lot of fun taking pictures of these in different presentations.  They did such an amazing job and one of them is becoming quite the budding photographer. I might have to hire her. 🙂

Here’s their after and different presentations pictures.  Enjoy the eye candy! I like the pictures on the white plate.  Which look is your favorite?

    Hi Cassie,

I cant wait to make these. They look amazing! Can I use some kind of store bought dough? Maybe Pillsbury crescent rolls? Do you think that would work?

    Thank you,
    Tina

Great recipe! My 17 year old son made them and they turned out perfect —-except one minor thing. It seems that one red apple was not enough for 10-12 roses. Only suggest using two red apples. Thanks for the recipe!
