Week #2 Focus Areas Schedule! Plus, share your updates on this challenge!

Last week,  we started the 30-Day Declutter Challenge.  We are now on the second week of the challenge and wanted to help give ideas on what areas to focus on this week.

*Remember that your goal is to get rid of five items a day in the 30-days.  See the full instructions to the declutter challenge here.

So for week #2- these are the areas we encourage you to start with on your clean-out and to focus on this week:

  • Bedrooms
  • Office Areas
  • Extra Bedrooms (even if they are used for other purposes)

Basically just focus on your bedrooms and bedroom like rooms this week and find 5 things each day to get rid of!

We want to review the questions that we asked the first week when deciding what to do with items:

  1. Do you really need this?
  2. When was the last time you used it?
  3. Do you have duplicates of this that complete the same job?
  4. Is it valuable?  (this doesn’t mean to not get rid of it, but perhaps upsell it!)
  5. Is it sentimental, but not necessary to keep out?  If this is the case, that’s what those bins/boxes talked about here in step #2 set-up are for.
  6. If I don’t need it, is there someone I know that needs this?  This goes into the borrowed box.

But we also want to talk about a few things regarding these specific areas. First, we want to talk about clothing since you will be working in the bedrooms.  Selling clothing is not an easy thing to do, nor very profitable.  You need to have very nice individual items or sets. If you are wanting to sell clothing, the best thing to do is to bundle them in a package – like size 18 mo. boys clothing lot, or woman’s 2-piece suits lot, etc. However ultimately, you and someone else might be more blessed with the donation of clothing- especially families with kids and kids clothing, single moms and nice work clothes, etc.  If you know family, friends, church members, neighbors, etc. that could use clothing, you are probably going to get much further than attempting to sell it.

Now on with the office stuff – this stuff could be of some value in selling.  The books, electronics and other items found in the home office area can sell quite well and make some good money. There are specific places to sell these items that are going to generate a better return.  First – Amazon’s trade-in program, second – cell phones, tablets and other electronics to resellers or your cell phone company.

Again, a lot of this information is found in our “How to Build Your $1,000 Emergency Fund in 30 Days” ebook  that you can get free as a subscriber to our regular email newsletter here.

*Be sure to join us on our Facebook page HERE where we will also be giving daily goals and tasks for this challenge!

How is your declutter challenge going so far?  We hope you are finding many things to get rid of and getting these areas of your home organized!
