Would you like to know the secret to a super stellar homemade cranberry sauce? It is so unbelievably easy to create your own from fresh cranberries. I wish I had learned this many years ago when I was buying cans of sauce when we were first married. However, I have been making my own for years now and our guests are always amazed at the amazing rich flavor, color and consistency. It’s really 10x’s better than any ol’ can and about as much work as opening both ends and squeezing the sauce out. Seriously, just as easy! It’s also a frugal side because fresh cranberries in the fall are quite inexpensive.
It’s also only 3-ingredients!
Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 12 oz. fresh cranberries
Here’s how to make Homemade 3-Ingredient Cranberry Sauce:
- Add the sugar and orange juice to a sauce pan.
- Bring to a rolling boil while stirring
- When it is a rolling boil, add the fresh cranberries and drop the heat to medium
- Stir occasionally as it is boiling
- Also, listen for the cranberries to “pop” as they begin popping, stir.
- Continue to stir and boil on medium for about 8 minutes.
- When the cranberry sauce is a deep red and thickening, take it off the stove and put it in your serving dish.
- Garnish with orange zest!
- It will thicken a little more as it cools.
That’s it and that’s the secret to an amazing Homemade Cranberry Sauce with only 3-ingredients!

Also, a dish my family request every holiday meal is the Cranberry Pineapple Jello Salad, also made from fresh cranberries and absolutely amazing! This one takes a full day to prepare as you have to let the jello mixture set overnight, but the prep included is worth every bite!
