If you love being outside and doing garden and yard work, now is a perfect time to start offering “winter prep” yard cleanup and prepping the yard for winter. Offer services that will allow you to take care of the end of the season yard work and prepare for the cold and snow! It is a busy time of year for so many and many just simply do not have the time to do what needs to be done in their yards and would love for someone to come and help them! It is best to charge a flat fee, per service charge, vs. per hour. Generally people are willing to pay $100 – $400, depending on the services offered.  But you can get a feel for what would work best for you! 

4. Seasonal/Winter/Holiday Cleaning Service Home

Similar to the yard work, many people would love to have their homes deeply cleaned for the holidays before family and friends come. Offer a holiday deep cleaning service and charge a flat fee per floor, per room, etc. 

In the course of our research, most cleaning services will deep clean a kitchen, 3 bedrooms, living room, family room and two bathrooms for $300-$400 (they would supply their own cleaning supplies). You could do a few of these before Christmas and have a nice chunk of change and a nice Christmas to boot! 

5. In home babysitting for one day a week/month

I know that committing to a regular babysitting job can by trying on your own family’s schedule, but if you offered a babysitting drop-off day once a week or once a month, for busy moms to run errands (especially Christmas shopping) you can advertise to your friends and neighborhood that you will have your home open on a specific day and time for “drop off” childcare services. You can easily charge $4 per hour per kid. If you have 6 kids for 8 hours, that is nearly $200 for the day. Do this a few times before Christmas and you have some great spending cash! 

6. Writing/Sending Handwritten Christmas Cards for Companies with Clients

Many companies that have clients, like insurance agents, financial planners, realtors, lawyers, some in the medical profession, and those offering professional services to businesses are looking for people to write handwritten Christmas cards during the holidays. A handwritten card is such a rare thing these days that it makes a huge impression on current and past clients for a business – it can actually increase their business quite a bit. But this is a long and arduous process for many. But if you were able to charge $2-$4 per card, plus the cost of supplies and postage, you can do them a HUGE favor and make a bit of cash too. If a business needs 200 client cards written with a simple “Happy Holidays” messages, you could make an easy $400 in a day or two.  

7. Gift Baskets

Playing off of the handwritten cards above, there are some clients that a business has that are valued much higher to them than a simple card. This is where a gift basket service comes in. I had a friend who was really smart shopper and got amazing deals on candy, nuts, sparkling juices and many other specialty foods and treats. She would then make these beautiful gift baskets from second hand baskets. She could put them together for a low price, and charge a premium price for the basket. She had a few lawyers and some realtors that would have her make up a gift basket with a handwritten card and deliver to their clients. She was able to charge $75 – $100+ for this service per basket with delivery, but only cost $20ish to put them together (but valued them higher if the items were purchased retail). 

8. Clean Out and Sell

This is a perfect time to do the 30-day organization challenge and find some stuff to get rid of and sell! There is still plenty of nice days before Christmas to have a garage sale. Plus, if you have some big items (like old furniture), then you can sell it on the local classifieds and through local selling apps and local Facebook selling groups. This is another great place about learning how to flip the items in your own home for a big profit.

If you are like most people, you have probably had a few upgrades of cell phones over our life from switching carriers to getting those best deals, or the loyal customer upgrades. Well those old phones could still be quite valuable. Collect all of your old higher end cell phones.  You can get some nice cash for your phones, on average, about $25 – $40! Use any of the following sites to compare and get the best prices: SellCell.com,  usell.com, BuyMyTronics.com andSimplySellular.com. One time, Alex cracked his cell phone screen.  We had it appraised at a local dealer and they would give us $40 for a cracked phone.  But we hopped online and bought $10 of supplies to fix it on Amazon and then the appraisal value became $140 (we did tell them that it was cracked and we fixed it).  So don’t undervalue your electronics. Even fix them up and sell too! Apple products and the current Androids are the most valuable!

10. Sell Books and Media

Sell used books, textbooks, electronics, movies, video games, music to Amazon.  Amazon has a great, easy and very efficient process of selling these items to them and in return, you will receive Amazon gift cards in your account to use to buy anything on Amazon.  As Amazon already has some of the best and lowest prices out there, it is a great place to shop for Christmas and this allows you to possibly shop for free. I just cleaned things out this week and was able to gather enough sell back items from things we no longer need and earned an extra $79!
