The design of this project is very creative and very practical. It is definitely a more involved DIY project, not for the beginning or the faint of heart. But with some great DIY skills and a bit of work, the results are well worth-it and rewarding.
What we like about this project is that you can have a piece of furniture that is a double-function. Whenever you can get that kind of usage out of furniture, it is going to save money and space.

We love finding projects like this as they really highlight the creativity of man, but provide for a very practical purpose too!
The nice thing about this project is that you can have a piece of furniture for those occasional times (a bed) for the overnight guests and more. Then everyday it can serve for a very functional sitting area. So this furniture is perfect in an extra room that you like to use for projects, etc. but need it to be an actual guestroom sometimes. Often, it seems like such a waste to dedicate an entire room with a bed for those occasional times, but this solves that problem. And it can also be placed in a livingroom or family room where it can be used for a sitting area and then for a bed in those common areas as needed too.
The only thing it will not do is store is the mattress as well. But you can get foldable foam or futon-like mattresses online and then they fold or roll-up for easy storage.

Well I really like this design and it will make an excellent place to sit in the spare bedroom (when it is being used for things other than a bed room) Might I suggest an Inflatable mattress for the top? they are excellent and with a piece of cardboard or something similar between the slats and the bed it will be Very comfy and long lasting…
