We love rice, in fact, it is a huge staple in our home for it’s nutritious and frugal value. We usually have on hand bulk bags of brown rice as our main rice staple as well as some white rice. We usually also have to plan to take an hour to cook it as it is the long grain and long cook hard rices we typically eat. But we have a rice cooker (highly recommended) to help with the dinner ease and planning.
But one thing we always keep on hand too is the ability to cook rice quickly when we are in a breakfast, lunch or dinner bind. With that, we were introduced to a new product from Minute Rice called Steamers. They are pre-made rice dishes for sides or main course when you top with a protein (like fish or chicken) and can provide a good meal very quickly. We all have to admit that no matter how good we are at menu planning, dinner prepping, etc., there are just some of those days that it doesn’t matter one iota – you need a plan and you need it fast.
They have a few different varieties. We got the opportunity to try three different kinds and our favorite is the brown rice with veggies, but they also have a Spanish and fried rice varieties too.
Another thing that Alex noticed that actually made us quite happy, the packaging is BPA-free. This is important to us and we have mentioned many times how we are trying to replace plastics in our kitchen and else where with BPA free or a glass/stainless steel option. So this was a bonus point for Minute Rice in being conscious about this.
Finally, another attractive thing is that they sell for $1.77 as a family side dish at Walmart everyday. We would probably use two for our family of 7, but this is not a bad price at all for something like this as an everyday price. This means that the price can only get better with coupons and sales, both of which are common on Minute Rice anyway, and so we are confident that it will be the case on these new products too.
So there is a quick and healthier “throw it in the microwave and sit and eat” option that is affordable too. It only takes 4 minutes in the microwave!
In addition, there are thousands of possible quick recipes in using this new product. Here’s more details about the product and quick recipe idea with a link to more ideas!
