We are very excited to make an announcement to each of you!
There will be a new thrifty baby in town with an estimated arrival date of June 18th!!
Yes, we are expecting! Cassie is 23 weeks along and is entering her sixth month. Yesterday we received an emphatic confirmation that we are having a boy! He looked great as we enjoyed those high-tech ultrasound machines and the 3D and 4D pictures. We saw him drinking the fluid and he even threw us a very distinct and cute yawn during the ultrasound.
So here’s the score:
- He will be the youngest blessing of 5 thrifty kids
- He will be the second boy (his brother will be almost 5 years older by the time he is born)
- He will be the fifth child born within 7.5 years but have the longest gap between kids – his immediately older sister will be 2.5 years by the time he is born.
Yes, we have our hands full!
Yes, we know how this happens!
Yes, we intended it!
Yes, we are very excited and feeling extremely blessed by our Lord and Savior who is our provider of all things we have and for giving us another blessing to raise, teach, encourage, love, provide for and enjoy!
And just for the record, our one son is VERY excited! And not only that, but he apparently knew from day one (or rather the 5th week when we found out!) that he had a little brother coming as he has been telling everyone everywhere that “my mommy will be birthing a brother.”
We have been using our thrifty tricks to stock-up on diapers for CHEAP (including buying cheap cloth diapers to try with this baby), grabbing a super deal on a new crib AND playpen (both the crib and playpen we had bit the dust after 4 kids!) and have been keeping our eyes peeled for a super sweet deal on a new cinco-stroller (just kidding!) a double-stroller which is also currently on its last legs – did you know that you can actually get 4 kids in a double-stroller?!
With that wonderful and exciting news, Cassie has been sick the entire time so far (not just the first trimester like with the other four) and very tired. Surprisingly, she was already super picky about meat, but she has become even more picky and just wants to mostly eat all kinds of fruits – she craves them all day!
We wanted to share with you all this exciting news – and yes, we are ecstatic!
Shelly

Congratulations & many blessings to your whole family! What a joy to have another baby! Although I can no longer have children, I am so very blessed that I was able to be there for the birth of my 1st grandchild and be a part of her life each and everyday. I think it is truly a great gift to be able to bring children into this world.
Hope Cassie’s sickness eases and the rest of this pregnancy & delivery goes smoothly for her.
Congratulations once again!

Oh I am so, SO thrilled for y’all! What wonderfully exciting news to share!
I must say I love how you addressed all of the ‘dreaded’ questions in your post! Yes, we’re thrilled, yes we know how this baby got here, etc. We just had our fourth baby in November and I feel like I fielded a million of those questions! 🙂
Praying for Cassie and her all-day sickness. It is a sick feeling like no other and makes it hard to function. I pray it eases soon –

Congrats! So happy for you! Thank you for your beautiful witness to life! I know it can be daunting raising a big family in today’s society (I am from a family of nine so I remember all the people in the grocery store that said to my mom “Do you know what causes this?”) May God grant you strength through your sickness. God bless!

Congrats! I am currently expecting my first (in just a few weeks) and have found your blog invaluable, especially since you’re so close (I live in Sandy) so everything that you post about is highly relevant.
I too suffered from the all day sickness and craved fruit constantly until ending up with Gestational Diabetes. What really helped me through the first two trimesters was smoothies! It satiated my fruit cravings and really helped to settle my stomach.
I also noticed that heartburn was a big controbutor to the nausea so I started taking pepcid (got an rx from the OB and that made the copay $0!) and added a couple of 2×4’s under the top two bedposts in my bed so that I was sleeping on a slight incline. It worked wonders!
I hope things continue to go well and wish you all the best!
