I am using last years clearance valentines for my son’s preschool class. I figure they are still too young to figure out what was “in” last year.

One of the thriftiest, and sweetest!, ideas at Valentine’s day comes from my parents. They bought cards that meant a lot to them over 10 years ago. Each year, they get out the same card and add a new sentiment to it :)I’ve always thought that was so romantic!

I like to make heart shaped meals for special dinner…like a heart shaped meatloaf…

The way i save when going out to eat on Valentines. Is I look for the local places to eat online and sign up for their emails, and every now and then I get a free appetizer that is good for months or percentage off and I save those and use towards valentines. As far as gifts. Since there are red colored candies in christmas stuff, I just get those out and save and make little baggies for my kids with just the red. reeses, or m and m’s. Keeps me from stocking up more candy and using what we already have.

We live on a farm, and well, you never get the day off from farming. Sooooo…we don’t do anything as a couple to celebrate. However, we will be butchering a cow that day, so by doing that…we’re not spending money at the grocery store on filets for our Valentine’s dinner! 🙂

A thrifty valentines day: Instead of spending $150 at a nice restaurant on valentine’s day…which will certainly be crowded, your server frazzeled, and your dinner cold…just due to the fact that it’s one of the busiest restaurant days of the year!!! I go to Costco and pick up some crab legs and asparagus. Easy peezy to fix… I put the crab legs into foil wrap on a cookie sheet, turn the oven to broil, and after approx. 20 min we have a beautiful, easy, stress-free and “thrify” dinner!

Since we raise and butcher our own cattle we usually save on a fancy dinner by dining at home. We think our steak is the tastiest anyway!

For Valentine’s Day our gift to each other is always going out to eat at our favorite restaurant – we can’t afford to eat there often and it is a great gift to go and spend time with each other!

For Valentines Day, I cook dinner and then after the kids go to bed, I take out some candles, and we eat ice cream by candlelight. Then we go play Call of Duty on Xbox live. Kinda corny but a great way for us to spend some time together 😉
