The perfect Thrifty Valentine’s date idea is date night in. I have a wonderful recipe for champagne chicken which is an elegant and tasty meal that is inexpensive to prepare at home. The fact you made it always makes it mean that much more!

I make sure to have friends/family take pictures of me and my husband together at different events throughout the year (on my camera.) I then make a slide show on a dvd to play on our big screen tv while we dine (usually Chinese takeout–our favorite) in front of the fireplace! Brings back memories of our whole past year!

What a great giveaway. I was thinking earlier today that as great as setting up a romantic getaway or his and her spa package would be, it might be fun to make a nice dinner for the whole family. Pull out the never used china, light some candles, etc. Let the kids enjoy the fun time with us, and then after the kids are in bed, enjoy each other’s company with a movie.

My thrifty Valentine’s plan would be having a romantic dinner at home. I will definitely cook my hubby’s favorite dish and having it by candlelight. Sounds corny, I know, but we both love it 🙂

We’re staying in this year for Valentine’s Day. Instead of going to a restaurant, I’m making a nice dinner (and appetizers, soup, salad) and dessert. We’ll dress up and eat by candlelight, with mood music and lots of candles lit all around. Probably do some dancing, and just enjoying being together.

Nothing spells romance like candles and a sensual massage. You can find ssweet smelling candles for cheap at a dollar store and rent a book on massage techniques from the library for free. Then spend the night at home fine tuning your new skills.

Dh and i always stay in for valentines day. We do a little dinner with candles. Its more romantic at home, and cheaper! 🙂

Valentines at our house is about having fun with the kids.
Chocolate fondue with fun dipping food. Playing a game and family time!

I think to save money this year we will not exchange presents, but do nice things for each other, and “get out of jail free” cards- for dishes, laundry, chores, diaper changes or whatever. Sometimes the greatest gift a parent can get is a break.

We actually celebrate Valentines Day with our kids, giving THEM small treats or cards and save our romantic Valentines celebration for a date a couple weeks before or after the big day. This helps cut down on waiting for a table and dealing with crowds. This also allows us to use a 2 for one dinner coupon we get in a local coupon book, as on special days like this they are not accepted. Because after all, you show love for your honey all year, not just one day, so we dont care if we go out ON Valentine’s day. !
