We don’t like the crowded-ness of the restaurants on Valentines day, plus it’s hard to find a babysitter for us, so we usually just have a candlelight dinner at home after the kids go to bed and maybe play a card game and just hang out. Of course we dress up and think of it as a date as it should be! At home dates are the cheapest!

Thrifty Tip for Valentine’s Day is cooking at home and renting a movie or if it was up to my husband….just don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day at all and it would save alot of hassle!

Cook a nice homemade breakfast and start the day out together.

I think a good way to save money on Valentines Day is to cook a romantic meal at home instead of going out to a fancy restaurant. I think this tip is more geared towards the guys out there. I know I really appreciate it when my hubby takes the time to plan and prepare a meal for me.

Valentines Tip: We get a redbox movie and a pizza. It’s easy and we are at home and baby in bed. That way we don’t have to pay for a babysitter and we get to watch a new release. AND… we get one dessert for each other (has to be under $3)

One very thrifty way to save on V-day is to be willing to celebrate on a different day when you have sitter options. Plus the cost of things goes down greatly.

Enter me in this drawing, please!! The best idea my husband ever had for V-Day was Ballroom Dancing lessons; they were free at the local community center. Then we crashed a wedding at a nearby hotel and danced the night away! =P

I am already a fan on FB! Our money saving tip is just to make sure everything is HAND MADE (that makes the holiday and the gift even more special than anything pricey or store bought anyway!). This year I made my husband an iPhone case out of felt and appliqued it/embroidered it to look like a monster (holding a red heart, of course!) and each year he knows he will get a handmade card. Our daughter turned 2 last September so this year she is old enough to make something of her own too!
Renata
The best tip I can give anyone is to spend it with the one you love. Doesn’t need to be fancy. A quiet dinner at home, a good chick flick, some dessert. That is enough for me!
