In today’s edition of “Thrifty Adventures” we had a family day shopping!
We started off at the Smiths grocery store. Here is the low down on the trip:
We spent $57.95 and here is what we got (I couldn’t even get it all on the table!):
- 8 Swanson Broth
- 4 Kroger Cheese
- 4 Kroger Yougurt
- 1 Croutons
- 6 Frozen Veggies
- 1 Cool Whip
- 2 Sara Lee Pies
- 3 Freschetta Pizzas
- 3 Lays Potato Chips
- 8 Ritz Crackers
- 8 Ritz Crackerfuls
- 5 Triscuits
- 4 Wheat Thins
- 1 Better Cheddars
- 1 doz. Eggs
- 5 lb. box of Clementines
- 3 lbs Bananas
- 1 Celery
- 1 Baby Carrotts
- 2 Loafs Bread
Summary: spent $57.95 and saved $122.56! 68% Savings!
We then stopped by customer service and grabbed some department store gift cards. We were headed to the mall to get our deals there – the reason why we got gift cards? Smiths is running a double rewards points on the gift cards! Every dollar we spend was 2 points! We divided up the gift cards based on where we were going! JCPenney, Bath and Body Works, and Bed Bath and Beyond.
Then off to the mall!
We first stopped by JCPenney as ThriftyAl was in desparate need of a new coat – we had our $10 off $25 from HERE and in the ad, they had a coupon for $15 off when you spent $75! The coupons clearly state that they can be used together! So with the sale on a coat of $80.00 with original price of $160 – already quite a discount! Because the coat was over the $75 – we were able to use both coupons! Final cost of a $160.00 coat – $55.00!
We then went our separate ways to get gifts – can’t spill the beans but yielded savings of 75%! As a tip – ThriftyAl went to Bath and Body Works with the $10 off $30 purchase HERE (this expires tomorrow, but stop by the store as they have some they are giving out that don’t expire until 12/24) to combine with their sales. While he was there, he took a picture of the upcoming Black Friday feature display. They are opening at 6:00 a.m. and if you spend $40.00 (still using coupons and discounts to work up to that!) then you can purchase a handbag filled with $100 worth of products for $15!
We finally met up at the Hallmark store where we had a coupon for $5 off a $5 or more purchase that we found in the recent Woman’s Day magazine (if you subscribe to this magazine you will find the coupon in the Dec. issue). We had the goal of finding a cute and perfect “baby’s first Christmas” ornament – ThriftyAl found the one he loved – now on this purchase, it was a $12.50 ornament, but we did get $5.00 off for the final price of $7.50!
Whew! What a very productive and thrifty day! As we headed home, we decided to reward ourselves with a peppermint hot chocolate from Starbucks using coupons there too, of course!
That is the kind of errand day we love to have!
