The Thrifty Couple Goes Shopping: Office Max – Made Money Buying Paper

We went shopping earlier this week.  We went to Office Max this week.

First, Office Max is having a great sale this week where you can essentially get things for FREE.  You will need to purchase the items and then you receive 100% back in Max Perks which is essentially Office Max cash to use on future transaction.

There are four FREE things that you can claim:

  • Notebooks -limit 3 FREE
  • Sharpies – limit 3 FREE
  • Scotch Tape or Post it notes – limit 3 FREE
  • 5000 sheet ream paper – limit 3 FREE

So you can buy each of these items and then get 100% back in Max Perks to use on a future transaction. This is available now through Saturday.

Well we also received a coupon in the mail from Office Max for being Max Perks members. We received $10 off of a $30 or more purchase – which would make our trip to Office Max a money maker!

Here’s a picture of what we bought:

office max shopping trip results

  • 3 Scotch Pop-up tape dispensers for $2.99 each = $8.97. Will receive $8.97 back in Max Perks rewards = final is FREE
  • 2 Boise paper 5000 sheet reams for $34.99 each = $69.98. Will receive $69.98 back in Max Perk rewards = final is FREE

Our total out of pocket was $78.95. We then used our $10 off $30 or more purchase mailer coupon = $68.95.  We will be receiving $78.95 back in Max Perks rewards = final is a $10.00 Money Maker!

Also, we purchased two $70 backpacks back in July that we were supposed to receive 100% back in Max Perks Rewards.  When I checked our online account, it did not show them – we were hoping to use some of those Office Max credits to make this purchase.  I called Office Max as I was greatly concerned that they did not credit it even though their ad stated such at the time.  After talking with customer service, the 100% credit on the backpacks will be credited on September 2oth. She confirmed what amount of money should be credited without me saying and her records were exactly what our receipt showed.   She said that the credit back on these was longer due to a longer promotion.  They are usually credited in about 30 days, but the case of the backpacks was about 60 days.  I was relieved and if any of you were having questions or issues about this, then this is probably the case or reason why you haven’t seen those credits yet.

We also receive a second $10 off $30 coupon and since the limit is 3 reams of paper for FREE, we are going to use that coupon and get a 3rd 5000 sheet ream for FREE PLUS $10 Money Maker!

Do you know how many sheets of paper this is?……. 15,000 – NOW that is a LOT of printable coupons!! 🙂

So to make a long story short – in about 30 days, we will have $140 from the backpacks, and about $115 from this last week’s trip = $255 in Office Max credit.  We use our Office Max credits to buy ink….. and for 15,000 sheets of coupons……. we need a lot of ink!

my store only offered $30.00 back per case which made it $9.99 per case — which is still a great deal

I did hear that some areas this was the case. Interesting that they do not have the same sale all over the country?!?

I think you’ll be set for paper for…oh…2 years?? Btw in an unrelated topic, my Walgreens finally had the John Frieda hairproducts on sale for 3/$15 this week (instead of last week) so I was able to get some! Thanks for the heads up last week!
