We had a great time shopping today! Thrifty Al took the reigns on preparing the list and cutting the coupons! He decided what we were buying and what we needed to stock up on! We all went to the store as it is fun to shop as a family.
When we got there, we grabbed 3 carts: Thrifty Al had one for all of the Mega Event items (we purchased 100 of these!) and I had one cart to hold the baby and the toddler, and our two oldest girls pushed the smaller cart and this is where we put the non- mega event items (like milk, produce and misc.). We had a cart train! But that is what happens when the store has a killer stock up sale 😉 We all followed Thrifty Al as he told us what to grab in what quantities!
Okay, so we spent $85.56 on 120 items! We had to take 2 pictures of all of this stuff as it did not fit on our table!!!

To find the full list for this sale – be sure to see the list on the Grocery Smarts website!
We used $54.95 worth of coupons from the Sunday newspapers! If you would like to get the newspapers for the coupons for as low as .88 each, then go HERE for the details!
Our Super Thrifty Day did not end there – we decided to reward ourselves with a Family Pizza and Game Party at home for dinner! But guess what….. If you were following us when we first started our blog a few months ago….. we posted a deal to get FREE Dominos Pizza when you buy Hasbro games. Well, the girls received these games for Christmas, and we’ve had the coupons on our fridge since and thought it was the perfect night to reward our “thrifty” efforts with a “FREE” dinner!!!
Thrifty Al ordered our Pizzas (he really did all of the shopping this week, see his diaper deals HERE from this week too!). We had 2 FREE pizza coupons. These were for 1-topping pizzas, we wanted 1 with pepperoni and pineapple and one with pepperoni and mushroom. We ended up paying $1 for the extra topping on each pizza. Breadsticks sounded really good, but the price tag for plain breadsticks …… $4.50! So I made breadsticks while Thrifty Al picked up the pizzas.
I wanted to share the spur-of-the-moment recipe as they were soooo good!
Cheesy Stuffed Garlic Breadsticks!
- Whip up a bowl of garlic butter with a couple of spoonfuls of butter and a few dashes of garlic salt/powder.
- 1 can Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
- Shredded Italian Cheese blend
- Parsley
Open the can of crescent rolls. Before you roll them up, spread some garlic butter and then a bit of cheese. Roll up the crescent roll and pinch the ends (so the cheese stays in when it melts!) and place on baking sheet, repeat for the remaining 7 rolls. Spread a little of the garlic butter on top and dash on some parsley. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Best served warm right out of the oven as the yummy, ooey, gooey cheeses fills your mouth even with that first bite! Yum! That’s what I am talking about! Oh…. and the price tag? Around .50 for the whole batch!

So now I know who took all of the cheese and Solo cups and left none for me! 😉 Do you go the day they stock the items? Do you know what day it is? I’d like to go back and get a few more items they were out of when I did my shopping trip on Friday!

We actually go when it is convenient for us. Our Smiths was awesome. Even after 22 packs of cheeses and 17 Solo items, there were still tons left! They were not out of anything which really surprised us! Maybe we happened to go when they restocked. However, it was late Sat. afternoon and the store was packed! I was very impressed with the stock!
However, I do recommend calling them and finding out when their trucks come. It is smart to shop at those times. This sale is going for 2 weeks, so I am thinking that they will be good about stock 😉

Thanks for the info, thriftycas! The first shopping trip I went to was the Payson Smith’s and today I went to the Provo Smith’s. BIG difference on how each store kept up stock. There was plenty to go around at Provo Smith’s. I guess I’ll just go to that one from now on!

Awesome! We shop at the Syracuse Smiths in Davis County. Rarely run into stock issues there. Glad you found a good location. I love these sales. If you want, send us a picture of your trip or at least tell us about it to post for everyone! Have a great day!!!
