Sloppy Joe Pot Pie?!? Yes, and it is so good! It is a new “non-sloppy” way to enjoy this traditional meal – that is of course if you eat it with a fork and knife.
We have been making this for years, and the most popular time we make it is for a main dish at a potluck or gathering. Everyone loves it and it is so easy to make, easy to take and satisfies many tummies!
What you will need:
- 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
- 1 can Manwich (15.5 oz)
- 1 onion
- 1-2 cups of shredded cheese (depending on how much you like – we are a “cheesy” family – in more ways than one ha!
- 1 cup Bisquick mix
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- *a few dashes of garlic salt/powder
- *a few dashes of dried parsley flakes
*I actually use our homemade Italian Seasoning for this mix!
As an additional note, if I am wanting to double this recipe, you can double the meat/manwich, or you can make a thriftier doubling by using a can of beans or a package of your frozen beans and a can of tomato sauce with extra italian seasoning. It is really good this way as well when doubled and saves you a bit more money for big crowds. I also love this dish because it is a pretty affordable dish (even doubled with original ingredients) to feed large crowds. I am all about affordable, yet super yummy!
To Make:
- Brown the ground beef or turkey (I also use our prepared beef for this to literally get this in the oven in a couple of minutes).
- Drain the meat (and rinse if you would like!)
- Add the onion to start sauteing
- Once onions are soft and browned add the can of Manwich
- Cook together until heated through
- Pour meat mixture into a greased 9×9 pan (the pictures show this recipe doubled)
- Sprinkle half of the cheese (whether 1 or .5 cup)
- In a separate bowl, mix the Bisquick, milk, egg, and the rest of the cheese together!
- Then add your garlic salt/powder and parsley flakes (or Italian Seasoning) to preferred taste
- Pour the Bisquick mixture over the meat mixture
- Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Serve warm!
- This does re-heat nicely, so if I make this for dinner at home, I usually do double the recipe so that Alex has lunch the next day and we often do as well!
So yummy!
A great side of baked corn casserole!

Here is my own original creation: I like to add peas and cook chicken breast in it – the chicken juice cuts the sweetness of the Manwich (rather like a quick version of cacciatore) then after simmering it on the stove, I put it in a casserole dish, cover it with mashed potatoes and pop it under the broiler to brown the potatoes like a meringue. Delicious!
