Fighting online piracy is important. The most effective way to shut down pirate websites is through targeted legislation that cuts off their funding. There’s no need to make American social networks, blogs and search engines censor the Internet or undermine the existing laws that have enabled the Web to thrive, creating millions of U.S. jobs. – From Google’s additional information on the blackout
You may wonder at the “blackout” over our header on our site today and we wanted to share why. We encourage and urge you to find out more and sign the virtual petition (it only takes about 20 seconds to sign the petition). Although well-intentioned, SOPA and PIPA are provisioned to shut down sites without any due process of law upon the accusation of having copyrighted material on them inappropriately. While we do not encourage “stealing content”, we especially do not encourage legislation that will “shut down our site and others like us” without due process, lacking protection and ability to defend ourselves. Thank you for taking the 20 seconds to sign this petition.
