We love getting our produce basket on Saturday mornings – and this week is no exception! We use the co-op Bountiful Baskets that is here in the West – they offer both organic and conventional baskets – $25 for an organic basket and $15 for a conventional basket.
When you are part of a co-op, it is mystery what you will get each week. There are time that we get things we do not like and this week is one of them! Each week can also be a bit of a mystery as far as the value of the items from the week. We think this week’s organic basket is a great deal this week considering the blueberries and butternut squash combined with all the other items.
Here’s a picture of we got!
- 3-lb bag of organic onions
- 6 organic apples
- 5 organic limes
- 1 bunch of organic broccoli
- 1 pint of organic whole mushrooms
- 3 organic tomatoes
- 1 organic butternut squash
- 1 pint Earthbound Farms organic blueberries
- 3 organic zucchini
- 1 bunch organic bananas
- 5-lb bag of organic farm-fresh russet potatoes
- 1 large bag of organic green beans
We really love our basket this week. Last time we picked up a basket we received another bag of organic green beans and it seems like this week’s bag is much larger. If they are as tasty as the last bunch we are going to be loving them for up to three dinners this week! Do you have any great suggestions for what we should do with our limes this week? Leave a comment and let us know!
We have also posted this information before, but we wanted to keep posting it in these posts so that everyone reading can have some ideas on how to get involved with a produce co-op:
There are many produce co-ops and grocery co op groups and it’s various forms across the nation that you can join and be a part of. A good place to start looking is at a the site localharvest.org (which id going to help you get organic local food) or coopdirectory.org (I am not sure how updated this site is as our area’s listings were old and many not listed, but at least worth a shot!) or search produce co-op your state under google and see what listings come up.

Lime juice is good for marinating beef for fahitas. Also use olive oil and chili powder. Also you can check out FoodNetWork.com and enter the ingredient you are looking for a recipe for.

You have the makings for a wonderful salsa! Or Bloody Marys! No need for the vodka, something about tomatoe and lime, it’s so refreshing!
