It’s patriotic treat time! With the 4th of July right around the corner, we will be sharing some amazing patriotic treats the next couple of weeks…starting with Fireworks Truffles!
These are so fun and amazingly delicious. They are no-bake, which is a HUGE plus. And they are quite frugal, especially when compared to buying already made truffles. These are a cinch to make in minutes. No need to buy expensive treats.
Plus, these are extra special and fun because they have a bursting surprise center – a juicy cherry! So they burst like fireworks when you bite into them! I haven’t found something like this in the grocery store anyway. So you can create a tasty, frugal, fast and more festive 4th of July treat to have a patriotic foodie theme at your celebration!
We’ve shared a couple of No-Bake Oreo Truffles before. Why? Well, it’s because they are easy and one of the most loved truffles out there because Oreos are America’s favorite cookie – so when you can turn them into candy…you’ve got a real winner!
It’s like many things I find in life – once I find something that works and is frugal, I just make a few adjustments to fit the season or the need. These truffles are no exception! They end up being my “go-to” dessert as any crowd that I serve them too is amazed by their taste, richness and beauty (yes, Oreos and chocolate dress well together for an informal or formal gathering).
I’ve made Mint Chocolate Oreo Truffles:
And the Classic No-Bake Oreo Truffles:
So now I am making a new spin on Oreo Truffles by making them fireworks surprise with cherry centers, dipped in white chocolate with red and blue sprinkles and stars! PERFECTO!
Ingredients needed for No-Bake Patriotic Fireworks Surprise Oreo Truffles:
- 1 (14.3 oz) package regular Oreos
- 8 oz brick of cream cheese
- 24 maraschino cherries
- 1 1/2 cups Wilton white candy melts
- 1 Tablespoon solid shortening
- Patriotic sprinkles or jimmies
Directions for No-Bake Patriotic Fireworks Surprise Oreo Truffles:
1. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside.
2. Place Oreos in a food processor or blender and pulse until finely crushed.
3. Transfer the finely crushed Oreo crumbs to a large mixing bowl.
4. Add the softened cream cheese and mix well until completely blended (about 2-3 minutes).
5. Roll the Oreo mixture into 1 inch balls and place on the cookie sheet.
6. Next, flatten each ball like a pancake. I used the bottom of a drinking glass.
7. Place a maraschino cherry in the middle of each flattened Oreo ball.
8. Completely cover each cherry by bringing up the sides of the Oreo mixture and rolling it into a ball again with your hands. Place back on cookie sheet.
9. Chill Oreo truffles for at least 30 minutes.
10. In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the shortening for 45 seconds. Add the white chocolate melts and stir until completely melted. You may have to microwave for additional 12 second intervals until the chocolate melts. Stir after each interval.
11. Using a toothpick, dip a chilled Oreo truffle into the melted white chocolate. Then using a spoon, give extra coverage.
12. Immediately, place it back on the cookie sheet and sprinkle with red, white and blue sprinkles or jimmies. (Because the truffles are chilled, the chocolate hardens very quickly). Repeat until all truffles are covered and decorated.
13. Store in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.
14. ENJOY!!
