WE ARE SO EXCITED to be celebrating the wedding and union of my sister to the love of her life this afternoon! The two of them will make their vows and to one another as we all witness their commitment and promise.
Here’s the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
This is a time that also reminds us of the greatest love of all:
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love
of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son
into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:7-11
So as we celebrate their union today, we wanted to remind you of the greatness of God’s love, and the love we can all show towards those around us through giving, sharing and encouraging one another. We also pray and hope that we can express this to each of you as you read our site and know that we are very thankful for you!
With that said, we want to share in the celebration with you
by giving one of you a $20 Amazon gift card this weekend!
We want to “give” a gift to my sister and her new husband from all of our readers. As you may know, we have not always been “The Thrifty Couple” and certainly not when we were first married! So, please share a frugal tip that we can compile and put together for them on ways to live frugally during that first year of marriage! Just leave it as a comment in this post and it will count as your first entry!
So…… here are the four ways to enter to win the $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry. And yes, you really can submit all four entries for four separate chances to win!
- The first “mandatory” entry is leaving a comment on this post regarding your frugal tip about anything to pass along to the newlyweds to help them have a thrifty first year!
- For your next entry, leave a second comment if you are a “liker” of The Thrifty Couple on Facebook. Its not too late if you’re not a liker yet, just go to our page and click ‘Like’. We also post extra deals and information on Facebook for our readers that you will not find on the site here.
- Subscribe to The Thrifty Couple email updates – Have our deals delivered to your inbox daily so you never miss a deal or another giveaway! You must confirm your subscription before commenting (a confirmation email will be sent to you that you will need to click through to confirm that you would like to receive emails from us!)! My frugal tip for the newlyweds is to learn to cook for two (e.g. alter recipes, invest in a cookbook specifically for couples). Many recipes are for larger groups and if you aren’t fans of left overs you can really throw away a lot of money making too much food.

I recommend having things to cook with like “staples” if you like cooking, always keeping sugar, spices, flour and things around if you want to just make something, sometimes an extra box of cake mix & frosting is necessary for just making a cake for fun. If you do buy in bulk like costco – divvy up chicken or meats into smaller plastic bags and cover meats beforehand in aluminum foil & plastic wrap before freezing, then you only take out what you need for the 2 of you and have enough meat to last awhile.

Decide where or what you want in the next 5 years and budget for it now. Learning to appropriately allocate your expenditures within your present income will make for a much more pleasant relationship.

My tip would be to cook with whatever you have on hand. If you’re missing one ingredient don’t run out and buy it, just improvise – it just may surprise you 🙂

Repurpose, you’d be surprised with the items you throw away without a thought of it possibly being used as a second, or even third time around or better repurpose use. I’ve taken the cereal box bags after the cereal is all gone and either quick rinse and reuse to store frozen items in. And or open the bag up and used as I would as a piece of wax paper. To store food. The little things you do to repurpose will add up and save you newly weds money.

I recommend cutting unnecessary costs in your budget… Examine your cell phone bill, cable bill, etc… and only pay for the items you can not live without!

Tear your dryer sheets in half and the box will last twice as long. You really don’t need an entire sheet to do the job.

My tip: (this is for when you have kiddos) buy clothes at the end of the season. Buy about 2 sizes bigger than what they are currently wearing. I’ve always had good luck at Kohls. I got a $25 pair of shorts for $2!!!!!

Travel now before you have kids. It gets rather expensive when those little ones come along. Congrats!
