WE ARE SO EXCITED to be celebrating the wedding and union of my sister to the love of her life this afternoon! The two of them will make their vows and to one another as we all witness their commitment and promise.
Here’s the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
This is a time that also reminds us of the greatest love of all:
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love
of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son
into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:7-11
So as we celebrate their union today, we wanted to remind you of the greatness of God’s love, and the love we can all show towards those around us through giving, sharing and encouraging one another. We also pray and hope that we can express this to each of you as you read our site and know that we are very thankful for you!
With that said, we want to share in the celebration with you
by giving one of you a $20 Amazon gift card this weekend!
We want to “give” a gift to my sister and her new husband from all of our readers. As you may know, we have not always been “The Thrifty Couple” and certainly not when we were first married! So, please share a frugal tip that we can compile and put together for them on ways to live frugally during that first year of marriage! Just leave it as a comment in this post and it will count as your first entry!
So…… here are the four ways to enter to win the $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry. And yes, you really can submit all four entries for four separate chances to win!
- The first “mandatory” entry is leaving a comment on this post regarding your frugal tip about anything to pass along to the newlyweds to help them have a thrifty first year! Â
- For your next entry, leave a second comment if you are a “liker” of The Thrifty Couple on Facebook. Its not too late if you’re not a liker yet, just go to our page and click ‘Like’. We also post extra deals and information on Facebook for our readers that you will not find on the site here.

Save money where u can by remember it’s not what u have that counts.
Life’s a Journey so don’t count your money all the time but make
your money count in the time you have.
Most times making memories that will last a life time cost very little.

My tip is to learn to cook together. It’s a fun way to get some time together, and saves you money from eating out too often.

Save some of the money you get for an emergency fund. I wish I had done this, but instead went and spent all the money on ridiculous things and then soon after regretted not saving it.
Tracy
Make a budget and stick to it. My hubby and I made one during pre-marital counseling and have stuck to it, including how much we spend on family gifts and Christmas.

I want to congratulate your sis and her life partner. May God bless them both as they start a new life together.
When we got married 2 years ago, some of the ways we saved money was by
1. buying what was absolutely necessary and not giving into the temptation to go on a buying binge whenever an attractive sale was on,
2. going out as a couple to eat in a nice restaurant only twice a month instead of more frequently and
3. buying affordable ‘Made in China’ clothes (which were of good quality, nice and comfortable) instead of expensive designer ones.
Let me close by quoting that great man of God, John Wesley, ““Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”

Keep God in your finances and your life, take 10% right off the top of your paychecks & have it automatically dumped into an emergency only savings account
only use a coupon on an item you would normally use anyway AND is on sale or if it turns into a freebie & you always wanted to try it but didn’t want to spend the $ in case you didn’t like it
make a budget & stick to it, learn how to do things yourself b4 you call a professional (the internet is a great tool for that)
always shop w/a list & stick to it & if you realize once in the store you forgot something then write it down on another list & then when you’re out & about later you can pick it up because then you have time to see if you can #1 find it cheaper &/or find a coupon for it

Two words. Emergency. Fund. Life doesn’t care whether or not you’re still in the “I’m so in love honeymoon phase”. Life happens and it is tons less stressful as individuals and on your marriage if you have considered and planned for those “what-ifs”. Date night is important and, if possible, start a vacation fund. A little goes a long way over time. It’s always nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to reconnect and remember why you chose one another in the first place. God bless and keep their union.

Take time to enjoy each other!! You don’t have to have expensive entertainment, a picnic and a walk in the park can be a great afternoon, and picnic with a pb&j heart shaped sandwiches, snack crackers and fruit or just a snack of fruit and cheese. A great evening with popcorn cuddled up in the front of the tv with a movie, or better yet, pick a couple of shows you enjoy that are free on tv. Roast marshmallows in the fireplace and cuddle and talk about places you would like to go on vacation and make a list of places to see before your 50th anniversary.

When starting out life together, there are a lot of “things” a couple might think they need. Carefully consider whether it is an immediate need or something you can wait for. Often, you find out after living without it for a while that you really didn’t need it to begin with. Or sometimes, God even supplies it without the cost of buying it for yourself! I translate every price into how many hours of work it takes to make the money to buy the item. It is easier to feel frugal about the use of my time than the money in my wallet.
