WE ARE SO EXCITED to be celebrating the wedding and union of my sister to the love of her life this afternoon! The two of them will make their vows and to one another as we all witness their commitment and promise.
Here’s the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
This is a time that also reminds us of the greatest love of all:
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love
of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son
into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:7-11
So as we celebrate their union today, we wanted to remind you of the greatness of God’s love, and the love we can all show towards those around us through giving, sharing and encouraging one another. We also pray and hope that we can express this to each of you as you read our site and know that we are very thankful for you!
With that said, we want to share in the celebration with you
by giving one of you a $20 Amazon gift card this weekend!
We want to “give” a gift to my sister and her new husband from all of our readers. As you may know, we have not always been “The Thrifty Couple” and certainly not when we were first married! So, please share a frugal tip that we can compile and put together for them on ways to live frugally during that first year of marriage! Just leave it as a comment in this post and it will count as your first entry!
So…… here are the four ways to enter to win the $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry. And yes, you really can submit all four entries for four separate chances to win!
- The first “mandatory” entry is leaving a comment on this post regarding your frugal tip about anything to pass along to the newlyweds to help them have a thrifty first year!
- For your next entry, leave a second comment if you are a “liker” of The Thrifty Couple on Facebook. Its not too late if you’re not a liker yet, just go to our page and click ‘Like’. We also post extra deals and information on Facebook for our readers that you will not find on the site here.
- Subscribe to The Thrifty Couple email updates – Have our deals delivered to your inbox daily so you never miss a deal or another giveaway! You must confirm your subscription before commenting (a confirmation email will be sent to you that you will need to click through to confirm that you would like to receive emails from us!)! If you are already a confirmed subscriber, just leave a comment and tell us you are!
- Share our site with your friends via email, your preferred social media outlet with a link to our site. Just leave a comment and let us know you spread the word. And we really appreciate it too!

Read Dave Ramsey’s book : Total Money Makeover it will help you tremendously with your finances, and prevent a lot of money arguments. Also get rid of your credit cards and pay them off. My husband and I started out with no credit cards, and no credit card debt-it is much less stressful and we never buy what we can’t afford!

We had friends that married the day after us. Once a month we had dinner at each others house (nothing fancy – just what we would have cooked for ourselves) and we would play board games or watch videos. Way more fun that dinner and a movie out could ever have been!

My best advice is to create a budget together so you both know what is necessary for your family as well as what is important to each of you. If possible, leave a little money for fun and a little money for each person to save or spend as they wish- no questions asked and no judgments passed. It could be as small as $5, but it gives you a chance to save and get things that you want that your spouse might not see the importance of.

A lot of young people today think they have to have everything new. There is nothing wrong with using hand-me-downs and thrift store buys in order to some day have the best of things. Debt causes more stress to relationships and that is NO FUN! Enjoy the simple things in life!

My frugal suggestion is to really think about the sales and things that will last forever. When it’s a great deal, buy a cupboard full of paper towels or a shelf full of laundry soap.
It’s saved me a lot through the years, and I’m sure it can for the newlyweds, too.
Congratulations.

Never use credit cards. Use what you have, don’t try to keep up with anybody. Be creative to find free dates, save, save, save, even if it’s just a quarter here and there. Learn the basics (if you don’t already know), like sewing, baking, car repair, home repairs. Always act like you’re dating, keeping that spark and love alive! Best of luck!

My suggestion is announce that you are getting married and elope – put the money you would have put into the wedding into a downpayment on a house!!!

99% of the things I buy are on sale. I rarely buy anything that is not on sale or that I at least have a coupon for.

My frugal tip is to take your own lunch to work with you instead of eating out every day. You’ll save tons of money plus have your food fixed exactly the way you like it!
