WE ARE SO EXCITED to be celebrating the wedding and union of my sister to the love of her life this afternoon! The two of them will make their vows and to one another as we all witness their commitment and promise.
Here’s the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
This is a time that also reminds us of the greatest love of all:
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love
of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son
into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:7-11
So as we celebrate their union today, we wanted to remind you of the greatness of God’s love, and the love we can all show towards those around us through giving, sharing and encouraging one another. We also pray and hope that we can express this to each of you as you read our site and know that we are very thankful for you!
With that said, we want to share in the celebration with you
by giving one of you a $20 Amazon gift card this weekend!
We want to “give” a gift to my sister and her new husband from all of our readers. As you may know, we have not always been “The Thrifty Couple” and certainly not when we were first married! So, please share a frugal tip that we can compile and put together for them on ways to live frugally during that first year of marriage! Just leave it as a comment in this post and it will count as your first entry!
So…… here are the four ways to enter to win the $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry. And yes, you really can submit all four entries for four separate chances to win!
- The first “mandatory” entry is leaving a comment on this post regarding your frugal tip about anything to pass along to the newlyweds to help them have a thrifty first year!

My frugal tip is to learn to use a crockpot. It saves energy, heating up the house in the summer, eating out. I give one along with a Fix-It or Forget-It cookbook to all newlyweds 🙂

My tip and I one I live by as well is to wait 24 hours before making any single major purchase over twenty five dollars. Chances are after sleeping on it you won’t need it anymore.

Kiss more, fight less. Not really a thrifty tip, but a good tip nonetheless!

My thrifty tip is to forget about having an expensive China dinnerware set. You’ll hardly ever use it. Instead opt for practical, everyday dinnerware.

My tip would be to stick to shopping lists in the grocery store, and don’t shop hungry.

My frugal tip would be to make sure that you always talk to each other, find that time. And when you do not agree, there is no sense in arguing, Talk it out and come up with a solution that you both agree with.

My frugal tip is to learn how to cook from scratch. May take a little more time, but if you plan ahead, batch/freezer cook when you can, and use your crock pot, it’ll save you lots of money, and yield some new family favorite dishes

Congrats to the newlyweds! Wahooo!
My suggestion is this: Figure out what your budget is and then make a list of whatever high-dollar items to save for that both of you really, really want. Then take a camera out to the stores and take photos of the items in question. Print those photos out on glossy photo paper and frame them. Place those frames on the wall where you’ll see them often, so that you can send positive waves toward them coming into reality.
Even better, pretend you already have them on hand … also take photos of where these items will eventually be placed when they do arrive in your lives. Cut out the items from their own photos, and superimpose those items-to-save-for on top of the photos of the environments where each of these items will later ‘live’.
Then, frame them so that it looks like the items in question have already arrived and are in place as we speak. :+)
Alongside this, create an envelope system for saving for these particular items, and keep a little checklist that tells you how much you’ve saved, and how much is left to go.
(This is a great one to use for the munchkins of the world, too! … in case you newlyweds go that route later on, you know.) ;+)

Eating out should be a treat or a splurge, not a routine. When you do get to enjoy eating out, be sure to order water and split a dish. Drinks alone are usually $2-3 a piece.

CONGRATS to the happy couple!!! I just found out my little sister is getting married. Yay! My tip would be one I read online the other day and I thought was genius. It was to turn down the water heater during the summer since people won’t be wanting such hot showers anyway and save money in the process. I had never thought about that before and loved it. Entering giveaways in your spare time is a great way to win gifts to save money, esp at holiday time. And coupons rock! Of course. Lol.
