WE ARE SO EXCITED to be celebrating the wedding and union of my sister to the love of her life this afternoon! The two of them will make their vows and to one another as we all witness their commitment and promise.
Here’s the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
This is a time that also reminds us of the greatest love of all:
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love
of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son
into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 John 4:7-11
So as we celebrate their union today, we wanted to remind you of the greatness of God’s love, and the love we can all show towards those around us through giving, sharing and encouraging one another. We also pray and hope that we can express this to each of you as you read our site and know that we are very thankful for you!
With that said, we want to share in the celebration with you
by giving one of you a $20 Amazon gift card this weekend!
We want to “give” a gift to my sister and her new husband from all of our readers. As you may know, we have not always been “The Thrifty Couple” and certainly not when we were first married! So, please share a frugal tip that we can compile and put together for them on ways to live frugally during that first year of marriage! Just leave it as a comment in this post and it will count as your first entry!
So…… here are the four ways to enter to win the $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry. And yes, you really can submit all four entries for four separate chances to win!
- The first “mandatory” entry is leaving a comment on this post regarding your frugal tip about anything to pass along to the newlyweds to help them have a thrifty first year!
- For your next entry, leave a second comment if you are a “liker” of The Thrifty Couple on Facebook. Its not too late if you’re not a liker yet, just go to our page and click ‘Like’. We also post extra deals and information on Facebook for our readers that you will not find on the site here.
- Subscribe to The Thrifty Couple email updates – Have our deals delivered to your inbox daily so you never miss a deal or another giveaway! You must confirm your subscription before commenting (a confirmation email will be sent to you that you will need to click through to confirm that you would like to receive emails from us!)! It looks like most of my thrifty tips have already been covered above. My thrifty tip would be to have a little money in the budget for each person to spend as they choose each week. Even if its only $5! It makes it easier to not complain about what the other may be spending if it’s out of “their” stash. Oh…and getting pregnant the first year is a great way to learn how to be thrifty….Just kidding, that’s just what happened to us. 😀

Buy as much used stuff as you can. Instead of heading to the mall to go shopping, go to a thrift store or garage sales. Never, ever, pay full price! I haven’t seen anything that doesn’t go on sale sometime. May God bless you richly!!!

If there’s some big ticket item you really want ..instead of having to have it NOW..save up cash and then get it..don’t get sucked into the typical credit card/financing way of life! I wish someone would have warned me when I was younger! 🙂 May God Bless You..Great Looking Couple!

All first purchases for the home does not have to be new! You will have plenty of time to purchase things as they come when needed (same goes for a baby, they never use anything long enough to destroy). When you’re ready to make a purchase, do research to chose the best one. Quanity isn’t better than Quality. Save money and search for sales. Store brand products aren’t always the lowest priced. And if you missed a sale, it will come back, they always do!

The best advice that has helped us financially was to use grocerysmarts.com. I had no idea what a good price for bread, milk, eggs, etc were before. This site REALLY helped me to get started saving money and eventually inspired me to start using coupons. Now I feel confident in my grocery purchases and know when when I’m getting a killer deal or not.

Ever since we first got married, 15 years ago, we only go out to eat once each week. Cooking saves oodles of money and we always make sure we have coupons when we go out to eat.

My tips would be to buy everything used that you can, and learn to make your own cleaning products. Those two have saved us a huge sum over the years. Blessings!

As a word of advice … Set up your budget so that you are living on just one salary and saving the other. That way you’re set if something happens to someone’s job or in case you plan to stay home with babies one day.
Good luck!

I highly recommend reading something like Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University while you’re still on your honeymoon! Avoid debt like the plague. If one of you already has debt, work your buns off to get out of it. Don’t get into debt for anything except a mortgage. Not even a car or student loans. Live your life frugally by following The Thrifty Couple and other couponing sites to help you avoid debt. That’s my tip!

Best advice for a young couple is to make sure they are set up financially for the future. This being said, make sure to contribute 10% of your income to an emergency fund, and retirement account. Have a least 3 to 6 months worth of income in an emergency account for the unexpected and then put all the 10% for retirement after that. It is crazy how only $200 per month invested in a mutual fund that is tax sheltered by an Roth IRA can grow to over 1 million dollars over the course of 35 years. Finally get a term life insurance policy for the 2 of you. Get it locked in for a minimum of 20 years and have enough coverage on you both to take care of any debt that you may have or get in the near future like a house/condo mortgage and enough to replace your incomes. This way you will be protected. May god Bless you and your New life together.

Don’t get caught up in the commercialism of holidays (Valentine’s Day for example) and instead make it your goal to show your love everyday and do things like take walks or have picnics to celebrate instead.

Dates with one another are so important, but don’t need to be expensive. I love the idea of having a picnic once a month. Cheap and romantic. And just as wonderful

The thing that saved us the most money when we first got married was buying all of our furniture at our local thrift store. My husband worked hard sanding and staining the wood, and they looked just as good as new. We still have most of those pieces of furniture in our house 6 years later. 🙂
