Time to share our next homemade product recipe that is frugal, easy and natural. It’s a wonderful alternative to the store-bought hand soaps. Make your own Moisturizing Lavender Hand Soap with this very easy recipe.
Now I will say that the past few years I have been working on trying to create my own liquid castile soap from a bar of the Kirk’s castile bar soap – which costs significantly less than the liquid versions. I think I have the recipe down and will share that hopefully soon. But in the meantime, you can also buy already made liquid castile soap and make quite a few natural cleaning items from liquid castile soap. The liquid soap making part is the more difficult task. But this recipe is super simple.
I love making my own handsoap because I can customize it with the different essential oils. I love to make mine antibacterial (which lavender does help with some of this), so you can add any essential oils you would like.
We love Lavender and have used Lavender Essential Oil for so many things. You can see our list of 26 Amazing Reasons to Have Lavender Essential Oil on hand.
Enough raving about lavender essential oil – let’s put it to good use!
Items Needed:
- 3/4 cup Castile Soap, such as: Dr. Bronners
- 3/4 cup water (distilled or boiled if you don’t plan to use the soap within a few weeks)
- 1 Tbsp. vitamin E oil
- 1 Tbsp. nourishing oil such as: sweet almond or jojoba oil 15 drops tea tree essential oil
- 5-10 drops lavender or peppermint essential oil
Directions:
- In a mason jar, add the water first (to prevent bubbles) then the liquid castile soap, followed by the oils.
- If you want to be fancy and have your soap dispenser last, you can top your mason jar with a rust proof soap pump or you can get a whole kit here. If you want to be thrifty, just reuse any soap dispenser currently in your home. I have actually use the same ones from buying SoftSoap many years ago and still refill them to this day. I also have bought the foaming soaps in the past and these dispensers can also be refilled and I use these still too! The foaming is fabulous because you use 3 times less!
- Shake the ingredients together.
- Shake the soap dispenser before using, and then squirt a small amount on your hands as needed, rinsing with water.
This is very moisturizing and smells great! The oils work to kill germs and viruses. This makes a great DIY gift idea and these adorable labels would be a perfect final touch.

Do you think the oil can be substituted with Sunflower oil? That’s what I currently have on hand, along with the rest of the items. Thanks!
Cassie
Hi Liliana, I have used sunflower oil as a substitute before. A substitute to which ones? Honestly, it will still work, but not be “quite” as moisturizing, but still effective. Hope that helps!
Liliana
Thank you! I’ll give it a try. It would be to substitute the nourishing oil. Have a wonderful day!
