This week’s local produce co-op offering from Bountiful Baskets looks plum-delicious! There’s not too much to complain or rave about (that head of Romaine lettuce is even larger in real life – I might have nightmares about it!) with this week’s basket. But what we are excited about is the special treat we decided to splurge on. Each week, our co-op offers additional produce (for additional cost of course) and this week we couldn’t pass it up. Our family loves plums. Yes, our little two-year old is oft asking, “Please sir, I want some more” – oh wait, wrong quote. But you get the gist – our family’s mouths were watering when we saw the 12 lbs of Plummy Paradise Sampler Pack featuring 10 different types of plums – and for just 88 cents per pound, what a treat it is.
If you’re keeping a mental track of each week’s basket, here’s the list of goodies:
- 1 huge head Romaine lettuce
- 1 bag of red grapes
- 1 cantaloupe
- 3 Roma tomatoes
- 1 lb strawberries
- 1 bunch broccoli
- 2 bunches bananas
- 4 ears of corn
- 12 plums
- 5 peaches
- 2 bartlett pears
- 12 lbs Plummy Paradise Sampler Pack (10 types of plums) – $10.50 additional
So to another week – we’re looking forward to a plum-tastic time.
We have also posted this information before, but we wanted to keep posting it in these posts so that everyone reading can have some ideas on how to get involved with a produce coop:
There are many produce co-ops and grocery co op groups and it’s various forms across the nation that you can join and be a part of. A good place to start looking is at a the site localharvest.org (which is going to help you get organic local food) or coopdirectory.org (I am not sure how updated this site is as our area’s listings were old and many not listed, but at least worth a shot!) or search produce co-op your state under google and see what listings come up.

I can say this is the first time in all the time I have been looking at someone’s bounty for the week and can be honest and say that I am officially JEALOUS! This is awesome, I have been trying to sign up for a co-op where I live and just have not been successful, the ones I found I believe were just way to expensive….but I will not give up! 🙂

Amanda S,
Today I went to a local farmer’s market and the man working it told me I had to try a white flesh nectarine. I of course looked at him going… hmmm I will have to pass. He walks over and cuts one open and gets me to taste it. WOW! The best B-E-S-T friut I have EVER put in my mount. She said something about be a cross between a plum and a peach. I like plums, but peaches not so much. So the whole reason I am telling you is that you HAVE to find some to try. They are AMAZING! I honestly don’t find fruit I am really crazy about ever. I usually stick with my Fuji apples and bananas. So I would highly recommend then. He said you have to look for the white flesh kind 🙂
