These have been a huge hit! At Christmas time, our boys made Light Saber Pencils for their friends for a little Christmas gift. It was a HUGE hit.
The best part is, the boys love them, the moms and dads love them because it is not sugar or cheap toy, and you will love them because they are frugal and fun to make!
All around, this is like the boys’ best little gift for Christmas, Valentine’s Day cards, thank you cards, party favors, even tied onto a birthday/Christmas present with a bow for added gift-umph!
We seriously purchased a pack of neon pencils at Walmart for $1.00. There are 12 pencils! Then we purchased these little neon dots, there’s like hundreds for around $1.50. Finally you just need duct and electrical tape, probably both of which you have at home already. With this small list of supplies, you can build your light saber.
To make Star Wars Light Saber Pencils:
- First start by attaching the pencil to the end of the duct tape roll and keep the duct tape on the roll as you roll the pencil and wrap the duct tape around.
- Once it has gone around a few times, tear the duct tape off and stick the final end on the pencil.
- Then, using the electrical tape, cut a 1″-2″ strip in half so it is not so thick. Then wrap the half piece around one part of the duct tape end and then the second half a little further down to make for space between the two black strips.
- Finally, stick one of the neon dots onto the black part of the pencil to look like the “button” for the light saber.
That’s it! You will then end up with super cute thank yous, Valentines, Christmas acquaintance gift, wrapping bow enhancement or a just because kind of DIY idea!
You can also attach these to Christmas tags that we have shared HERE. These are free to print and pair perfectly with your light sabers for Christmas gifts.
There are also free Star Wars Valentine’s Card printables HERE with a Star Wars theme too!
We have even more Star Wars Ideas in our DIY Gallery.
