Each week, we have had a fun topic for everyone to leave their quick comment/insight on. So this week, in an effort to get to know our readers better, we want to know how you tackle home projects.
Are you a:
- DIYer
- Hire it out
- Ask for a favor from a friend to help you out
- Not a DIYer, but attempt to do it yourself anyway all in the name of attempted money savings
- Or something else?
- And/or any tips you have for ways to tackle home projects the thrifty way
Here are the two ways to enter to win the $10 Amazon gift card. Make sure to leave a comment for each one as each one is a separate entry.
- This is the “mandatory” entry. We love hearing from each of you and your tips. So, this week we want to know your Home Project personality and/or thrifty home project tips!
- For your next entry, leave a second comment if you are a “liker” of The Thrifty Couple on Facebook. Its not too late if you’re not a liker yet, just go to our page and click ‘Like’. We also post extra deals and information on Facebook for our readers that you will not find on the site here.
We will announce the winner tomorrow!

definitely a DIYer. I am due Oct 15th with baby #2 and all throughout pregnancy (and way before that) I would build things on my own, plumbing, clean our carpets!!
I don’t do it all to save money, yes its an awesome perk but I LOVE the fact that I can do it myself, I feel so accomplished.

LIKER =] just started out but there’s nothing wrong with that!!

I am a DIY’er… I am a single mom and hiring out is not really an option. I just bought a little house and have so many ideas. I am in the midst of making my decor shabby chic… so I have lots to do!!! But I love being creative and coming up with new ideas!
Ashley R
We do pretty much everything ourselves. I’m lucky enough to have a husband that worked in plumbing sales for a while and can fix anything with plumbing/heating etc. He just gets how things work, so he can fix it as a result!

I usually drag my feet when it comes to home projects unless they are fun ones! Cleaning the garage can take a month but redecorating the dining room takes a single weekend! Im not ashamed to admit it either!

Im also a new liker of yours on Facebook.

I am definitely a DIT. As hard as it is with a husband out to sea and a 5 month old I am too cheap to hire someone.

I try to be a DIY’er with lots of help from my hubby. However, he is so busy with work that it never turns out quite right. we either has lots of fun finished projects or we end up having to hire it out. We actually started an toy room addition at the beginning of summer and well… it’s still there… Mostly finished.. Needs the walls hung and painted, but just can’t seem to get the time to finish it. Even when he does have free time, that is not what he wants to do. So, we have hired someone to come in and finish it up. Thank goodness for good yet inexpensive worker!
Holly
I am a liker!!! Newly, but a liker nontheless!! Happy Fab Friday!
Holly
BTW… I have a quick question… Do you or anyone posting know where to find Hot deals on cruises?
Jana C.
I have a friend who just started doing this and can hook you up with some really awesome deals! She specializes in Disney cruises. On facebook look up Cindy Wilhelm Irving and send her a note. She works for Galaxsea.

I’m an eternal starter but never finisher! I have good ideas but rarely follow through. 🙁

We try to be DIYers, but usually have to save some projects for when my dad comes to visit. He can fix anything!
Lori
I try to help my husband so we can do it ourselves! Or we try and find a friend that can help us!

We are DIYers. Fortunately, we have a new home and there is not a lot of work to be done, but my husband is planning to build our deck himself with the help of a contractor friend. This way we can buy the lumber and build something bigger than we could pay a company to do.
Krystal P.
We’re definitely DIYers in our house. The only project we’ve paid someone to do was install new windows and carpet install. We save so much money by doing things ourselves. We’ve tiled. Installed new sinks, new toilets, new bathroom mirrors and fixtures. We’ve painted (I always like it when the big box stores offer $5-10 rebates on their paint, that’s a good way to save.) We’ve really put a lot of work into our house.

My husband is quite handy so he will help to do it. I’ll tell him exactly how I want and he will get it done.

We have an apartment so we just call the office and they come and fix it. It is really nice!!!

I’d have to say that I *wish* I was a DIYer! but with 4 small kids, and no experience with home improvement, most of my DIYs have ended up badly. but i still try!!! so, i’m probably “•Not a DIYer, but attempt to do it yourself anyway all in the name of attempted money savings” i’m thrifty!
heyruthie
i finally “like” you on Facebook. you reeled me in!
Whitney
I, unfortunately, and a “hire someone professional to do it” person (for big projects. Have tried the DIY – but it never ends up correct, and in the end costs more money to have someone fix your mistake. I wish we were more handy, we’re just not.
Whitney
I like you guys on facebook!!

I’m a “hire help” gal. I’d rather pay a little bit more to have it done right the first time.

DIY. As long as that’s the same as “get my husband to do it.”
Jana C.
Depends on the project, but mostly DIY. However, word to the wise, Do NOT attempt to do taping and mud if you have never done it before. It is sooooo not worth it, so hire out for this.
Jana C.
Of course I Like you!! hee hee.

DYI – When painting a room, don’t forget to back roll to stretch your paint further. . .

We are DIYers. My husband is at least. I would like to be, but don’t know what I am doing. I need to go to those home improvement store classes and learn.
Karyn
I’m a “•Not a DIYer, but attempt to do it yourself anyway all in the name of attempted money savings” kinda person. We are new homeowners and have no idea how to do anything!!

I am new to DIY, but I love it! I just refinished two end tables and a buffet table, all of which I paid around $60 for, but it now looks like I paid hundreds for them!

My husband and I are total DIYers, we finished all three bathrooms ourselves for under $5,000, where our friends just spent $10,000 on one, and I personally think ours is way better!
Alison
We are DIYers. Our projects always take at least twice as long as we planned. We go into it thinking it will be easy and then always hit some sort of problem.
Anna
I am an ask my dad to do it for me…even though I am married. My husband is a Not a DIYer, but attempt to do it yourself anyway
