#1 get family to watch the kids or swap date night care with another couple.
#2 coupons! Fandango sometimes has great ticket offers… or Restaurant.com has great deals…or try groupon or portlandpreks.com ( think outside your normal date box)(…that boxing class on groupon could be fun… that restaurant on Restaurant.com thats a little drive away…could lead to some great conversation in the car.) if all else fails grab a 20 jump and the car and go with it ( something I so could not do :P)
#3 try to have FUN!
#4 pray the kids don’t wake up when you get home 🙂

In our area we have friday night art walks. Local art/studio business open their doors for people/guest to view their works. Some have samples of food and wine. After we are done we stop at for ice cream and a redbox movie. Then enjoy the rest of our night together.

the wife and I have twin boys and for our thrifty date nights we like to have grandma babysit (free), order a pizza using best available coupon codes (7-11$), and go to the local community theatre ($12). if we’ve had a thrifty week we hit drive thru froyo (6$) on the way home!
kimber
We swap babysitting with some very good friends and then usually come home to watch a movie that we got from the library.
Suzy
We do date afternoons – lunch and a movie. The meal and movie tickets are cheaper than at night.
Monica
We love to go to the playground and just enjoy ourselves. Many times we take a little picnic dinner.

a date night for us involves getting the little one to bed, putting in the netflix and eating popcorn with m&m’s. It isn’t fancy but we have so much fun cuddling on the couch and it is practically free!
Holly
I wish I could say that I have had a date night. However, its nearly impossible to even get out of the house without a kid to do some grocery shopping. We have three under 3.
However, we do small trail walks with our kids along that is nice.
Or we have tossed a blanket in the backyard and looked at the stars.

I am a ‘liker’ of your page. Thank you for getting me started. The savings are already underway!!

We like “renting” a movie from the local library. They have an amazing selection and it’s completely free. It’s never a box office blockbuster, but they have great classics and other things. Then we make homemade pizza and cuddle up on the couch together. It’s wonderful. Sometimes, we’ll even let the kids join us 🙂

We swap childcare with our friends. We like to go geocaching using our GPS(the geocaching is free once you’ve paid for the GPS 😉 We also rent movies from the library or play board games. It doesn’t take much to be special when you have kids!!

We have a 2 year old and a 6 year old, but I work with middle school and high school teenagers. We like to take our kids to watch our youth group kids in their sports games or band concerts. We can usually get in for free or cheap. This week we have a choice of watching a high school football game, high school girls tennis or a middle school play. Our kids have a ball cheering the “big kids” on and are usually ready for bed as soon as we get home.

My number one tip for thrifty date night ideas is to be creative and spontaneous. One night my hubby called on his way home from work to say he had picked up a Hawaiian-style pizza. I said, “hey, we have Hawaiian punch to go with it!” And he said, “Lets have a Hawaiian party!” So that night we found our most Hawaiian clothes to put on and some of those cheep leis that happened to have. It was silly, but we had so much fun with it. 🙂

We go to olive garden and do a little shopping.

A fun frugal friday date night would be to go to a redbox, only $1.07, pick out a movie to watch, go home make some spaghetti or something simple, nothing fancy, fancy isn’t as fun, just curl up on the couch together in your favorite pjs and watch the movie and eat some cheap supper after you make it together. Supper is always better when it’s homemade and when you make it as a couple it’s even sweeter. Just enjoy a night inside without the kids. going out costs too much money and is a hassle. Relax and enjoy your together time while you have it!!!

Date night? What’s that?! No seriously…we usually have grandma watch the kids (free) or a neighborhood kid ($10) and go out to dinner (using citydeals.com restaurant certificates) and the movies (dollar movie theater, or a matinee!) This happens once every 3 months or so. On other months, we like to watch our favorite show together after the kids are in bed, or go shopping as a family. Believe it or not, you CAN have date night even with the kids taggin along.

Dollar movie theater or a matinee, and restaurant with citydeals.com certificates.

Why does it have to date night? Any time of day you can get away and spend time together recharges you’re batteries. Go out for breakfast or lunch. Quite often you can get meals cheaper before 4pm.

We just went out the other night. My sister was the free babysitter (if you don’t have family, swap turns with a friend). We also ended up getting a large appetizer that had a combination of things and shared that for dinner and then still had room to get dessert! 🙂 And matinee movies are always the way to go. We also usually try to do our date nights during the week, that way it’s not busy at all!

Me and my husband love to go fishing! You can buy license once for about 35.00 (and thats for both people)and they will last you for a year or if you’re not sure if you will like fishing you can get a day pass for cheap! Plus you get a discount if you buy a couples fishing license.
So for the cost of fishing worms and a a nice picnic lunch you can have good quality fun together.
Also kids can fish for free until they’re 16! So not only is it a good date night but it’s good cheap family fun!!

Before following coupon blogs, our go-to cheap date was renting a redbox and having popcorn at home. Can’t beat a buck! But now I’ve found that we are able to do more things without too much more money. For example, I bought the movie ticket deal on Tippr. 4 tickets for $15. We can’t beat a $7.50 trip to the theater, especially for those movies you can’t wait to come to a redbox. Also, we don’t eat out without a restaurant.com certificate, and never buy one until they are 80% off!

Best date night deal was using my $4 groupon movie ticket. Can’t justify paying $11 for a movie!

We’re saving up to buy our first house, and so we don’t have a lot of money for “extra” things like date nights. One of our favorites cheap things to do is stay home and watch a movie from Netflix. For just $9 a month you can watch an unlimited amount of instant movies through your computer, (which we can hook up to watch on our tv) as well as getting DVDs in the mail. We used to love going to the movie theatre, but now that we’ve cut back on our budget we can’t do that very often. I figure that one month of Netflix equals just one movie theatre ticket, so by not going to see any movies in the theatre, Netflix pays for itself. (On a side note, it’s great for kid shows too. Who needs to pay for Cable when you can watch tv shows through Netflix? My kids are currently watching Backyardigans.) 🙂

I guess this is a stretch as a tip, but we rarely do date night since grandpa and grandpa are usually swamped with requests for free babysitting. My teenage nieces are expensive. Anyway, since both of us work outside of the home we usually do date lunch about once a week. They are already at day care and we just meet at a place and enjoy lunch which is usually cheaper than dinner.
