Ok, here is the next Thrifty Recipe from The Thrifty Couple Kitchen! This is another creation that we just made up one day when we wanted a fresh baked pie – our usual problem is time and complex recipes! So a couple of years ago we headed to our Thrifty Store (located in our basement storage room!) for some ideas and found a graham cracker crust and a can of pie cherries! Well, shortly after arriving in the kitchen – Cherry Crumb Pie by The Thrifty Couple was born! We make it often as we usually have those ingredients on our shelf already. So, we created this pie that is so simple it is ridiculous, but the even more riduclous part is that it is unbelievable yummy!
So here’s the ingredients needed:
- 1 graham cracker crust – whether homemade or already formed
- 1 can Cherry Pie Filling
- 1 Stick Butter
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup flour
How to Assemble (baking is really not the right term here!):
- Open the can of cherries and dump into your crust!
- Melt butter in the bowl
- Add the flour and brown sugar to the butter and mix until well blended and crumbly!
- Sprinkle crumb mixture on top until it covers well and nicely!
- Bake at 375 degrees for about 35-40 minutes or until top is toasted brown
- Serve
- Eat slowly, dramatically and with mmmm noises – then look up and smile ….. repeat!
That’s it! I know, like the easiest pie ever!
For a more traditional pie: you can do the exact steps above a replace crust with a pastry crust (we call that Cherry Dutch Pie to make a distinction between the two in our house!). We have done this with frozen crusts and the process is just as simple (feel free to make your own)!
This pie ends being like a cobbler when it is made with the graham cracker crust. It is best served warm!
