After enjoying a full-day with my kids at the museum today, I wanted to share a thrifty tip that we have done for quite some time! That is…….. taking advantage of FREE admissions to museums!
Our kids absolutely love to visit many different places and take in the sights and sounds of the new worlds they are exploring! It is incredible to see their little minds at work. But one thing that we learned very quickly was the FREE museums! Why? Well when you are a family of 6, the expense of paying to enter somewhere is, at times, jaw-dropping! Of course, we seek out discounts and coupons where we can (we will share more on discounts for paid museums later). However, it is great to have the option to just go do something fun and learn something new for FREE!
The most common types of FREE museums are many military museums as well as many historical sites (in which many will have a museum of sorts at the historical site!), in addition, our family is fascinated by state capitols to name a few! In our area specifically, we live close to an Air Force Base. This means we get to visit the Air Force Areospace Museum and – it’s FREE! Our kids LOVE it! Even our girls. They are so fascinated to see these aircrafts up close and throughout the times! They beg us to go often! And it is an activity that our budget will allow us to do often 😉
So, we researched to find a resource for you to find FREE museum admission in your area. There is a great list on the HeyItsFree site. Just click on your state and you can see the FREEBIES in your area. Also, if the list is missing one that you know about, you can add it!
You can also call your local Chamber of Commerce or your local Tourism Office (or visit the websites) and they can direct you to the FREE museums (and other FREE attractions) in your area! These offices are not just for those visiting your town!!
Have you visited a FREE museum lately? Tell us about it!
As we continue to share our Thrifty Couple Travel series, we will also share how to vacation in your own town for cheap too. This is something we have done to save money, but have a vacation and actually explore our own city! More to come on this soon!
