This is a cute and practical idea for old jeans. Turn them into denim placemats for all year fun, but the will be especially useful for those outdoor summer meals!
I am so happy to be here on The Thrifty Couple to share one of my favorite projects and tell you a little about Today’s Nest. This Upcycled Denim Placemat is easy to make and will make a great addition to your summer table. The tiny pocket is perfect for cutlery or a place card. Not only will you be making something useful, but you’ll be keeping some of those worn out jeans from the trash, too.
Here are the steps to make your own:
- Remove pockets from the jeans.
- Cut out panels from adult jeans and make rectangles of them.
- Cut and sew panels to fit the project.
- Attach a pocket from kid sized jeans.
- Cut out backing fabric and put the whole thing together with no-sew tape and an iron (or sew if you want).
See more details on this project on Today’s Nest.
While you’re checking out the placemat article, be sure to browse around the Nest a bit. You will find everything there from recipes to fitness, DIY to budgeting. I started Today’s Nest in 2010 to bring together all of my experiences and share with readers. My work in finance, fitness, and design laid the backdrop for what Today’s Nest is today. These days, I am a freelance food & lifestyle photographer/stylist, but I still find time to make regular updates to Today’s Nest, usually 4-5 times per week.

What a fantastic way to repurpose old jeans! Following your steps, I was able to transform some worn-out denim into stylish placemats for my Wordle Unlimited dining table.
