Want to find out how to create an incredible, durable, attractive, fancy and unique shower floor for pennies….. literally?
Well, that is the DIY project we are highlighting for you today! This is such a great idea!
If you are looking to re-do a shower and give it a very classy and elegant look, consider this idea – use pennies as the floor.
Recently, we highlighted a gorgeous wood floor from repurposed pallets. This is from a family who lost their home to a fire and have slowly been rebuilding their lives on a tight budget and share about it at A Building We Shall Go site. This shower was the next step in their unique, durable, thrifty fix for a standard rebuilding.
To complete this project, they used 5,382 pennies – this is $53.82 for this beautiful shower floor! Of course there was also the expense of the glue and the grout – but compared to other floor options, this is quite affordable to say the least! Of course, not everyone’s shower will turn out to be 5,382 pennies exactly, give or take a few cents. 🙂
Now one thing that will be different from a classic redo is your time – it will take more time to perfectly lay 5,382 pennies – each by gluing them down. It will take time and patience. But what we love is a handmade project, which makes the time worth it. But even more, we love what this family has to say about this project:
“There is a reason I wanted the pennies all Heads Up. It is because of the words written on the Heads Up side. “In God We Trust” says it ALL! Through our entire journey, from the day of the house fire, we have placed our faith and trust in God to guide, protect and direct us, to where we are today and into our future.”
What an incredible perspective and focus as they do rebuild their lives and share their thrifty projects with all of us for inspiration and ideas.
We can see how a floor like this would be a head-turning show stopper. It’s BEAUTIFUL!! It’s THRIFTY

What did you use to coat the pennies so they won’t tarnish?

How did you apply the Sharks Tooth Grit? I am doing this exact project and the epoxy people tell me i’m crazy because of how slick it gets when dried. I dont want to ruin the floor
