My kids made these adorable cookies! They were so easy and so cute. We made almost 100 of these cookies for our caroling tradition to hand out after we sing. So since we were making this many, I bought pre-made cookie batter to make it easier. But you can use any sugar cookie recipe or pre-made cookie batter.
I actually bought the cookie rolls in a log from Pillsbury. The reindeer cookies idea was on the package that I had planned to purchase, which was funny because I had seen the idea on Pinterest and planned to do it, but that’s probably where it originated!
Well, here’s how to make these super simple reindeer cookies:
- Sugar cookie batter (homemade or pre-made)
- Dots candy
- Twisted mini pretzels
- Chocolate chips
- Frosting (homemade or pre-made)
Again, I bought pre-made frosting. This was kinda a last minute plan for a treat to include on our caroling treat plates with the other treats we made and so I knew we had to make about 100 and so I tried to save time where I could.
To make Reindeer Cookies:
- Form the cookie dough into a log that is about 1 ft. long.
- With the cookie dough log, form a triangle shape all around.
- Cool in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to make it easy to “slice”
- Slice off pieces – you will get about 36 per log….about 3 cookies per inch, making them about 1/3 of an inch thick.
- Place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for about 9 minutes on 350 degrees. Check the cookies because if you have a dark pan, the cooking time will be shorter. You want them light brown on the bottom and lighter brown on top.
- Pull them out and cool them on wax paper.
- Once cool, frost them with the frosting.
- Then decorate by adding two twisted mini pretzel antlers, 2 chocolate chip cookie eyes and cut the dots in half for each nose.
That’s it!
These were a big hit with whom we passed them out to because they are so cute and festive! They look more complicated at first than they really are. I baked the cookies, but our 5 kids from ages 3-10 did all of the decorating! It was that easy!
