Thrifty Al was up bright an early again this morning to pick up this week’s basket (we pick up around 2 a month). The basket is filled with 50% fruit and 50% veggies, all organic, for $25. The conventional baskets of food is $15. This is through the produce co-op in our area called Bountiful Baskets.
Our initial reaction was that it didn’t seem as good of a value as it is usually, but to buy many of these things organic in the grocery store would still probably cost more than $25.
Here’s a picture of what we received in our basket:
- 1 organic cantaloupe
- 1 head organic Romaine lettuce
- 1 head organic Kale (this is our favorite over steamed Spinach!)
- 1 3-lb. bag of organic apples
- 6 organic bananas
- 6 organic peaches
- 4 organic beets
- 1 large head organic cauliflower
- 2 organic green peppers
- 2 organic zucchini
- 6 organic plums
- 1 pint organic cherry tomatoes
- 1 bag organic green grapes
So this week, we did not receive anything new 0r that we haven’t received before. We know exactly how this will fit into our menu this week and just enjoy and appreciate having an affordable way to get our organic produce!
