I know that it looks totally funny to be posting this very rich, very enticing, very yummy Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg Copycat Recipe right after Alex posted his article on the 90-day fitness and health challenge and the encouragement and success he and many of you are having. Well, just move along and ignore this post…it’s posted by me…the very pregnant sweet tooth. I will be starting my 90-day challenge AFTER baby in a few weeks, but for now, I am going to indulge and be impressed by Alex’s self-control. 🙂 UPDATE: Please note the healthier alternatives and swaps to make this a healthier, low-sugar recipe! Those tips found at the bottom of this post!
Anyway, it is candy season and so it is also fun and frugal to make your own creations and versions of popular candy – and Reese’s Peanut Butter candy is certainly no exception!
Well, enough introduction, let me share this easy and yummy recipe with you!
Ingredients Needed for Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs Copycat Recipe:
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1⁄4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1⁄2 cup powdered sugar
- 10 oz. dark cocoa melting chips
How to Make Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs:
1. Melt peanut butter and butter for 1 minute in microwave. Stir until blended.
2. Add vanilla and powdered sugar, mix well.
3. Divide mixture into 10 portions and form each into an egg shape. Even better is if you happen to have and egg shaped cookie cutter to form the shape, but the egg shape is an easy one to form without a mold too. Place eggs on a parchment lined baking sheet and place in freezer for 15 minutes.
4. Melt chocolate in microwave by heating for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat the process until chocolate is melted and smooth.
5. Using a fork, dip peanut butter eggs into chocolate and flip to cover completely. Lift with fork and gently tap on edge of the bowl – allowing excess chocolate to drip off.
6. Place back on parchment paper and refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Then serve it up however you want! It is really fun and festive to wrap in pastel colored saran wrap or in festive plastic treat bags.
