How to Make Homemade Bread in a Crockpot Recipe

Have you ever wondered, “Can you make bread in a crockpot?” The short answer is YES! Homemade bread is pure awesome! Not only is it frugal, but enjoying the comfort of a warm, fresh bread is a delight for many! I try to make bread often because it is cheaper, I can control ingredients and it’s fun! But time can also be against me with the busyness of life!

So, here’s yet another way in which the amazing invention of a crockpot comes into play – your homemade bread! Yes, you can make bread in a crockpot and we are going to show you how!

Here’s the Recipe for Homemade Bread in a Crockpot

Ingredients Needed for Basic Crock Pot Bread Recipe:

  • 3 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp or 1 packet Yeast
  • 2 tbsp Sugar or Honey
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 cup warm (not hot!) Water

How to Make Basic Crock Pot Bread Recipe Directions:

  • Measure flour into large bowl.
  • Add salt, sugar and yeast and mix together well.

  • Add Oil and water.
  • Stir with a spoon until it gets stiff and sticky.
  • Work the dough with your hands (occasionally scraping dough off your fingers) until it forms a nice ball.
  • If it stays too sticky add a bit more flour (1/4 cup at a time). If it gets too dry add a bit more water (teaspoon at a time).

  • When it forms a good ball, scatter flour on you work surface and turn out ball on to surface.
  • Knead dough for 5-6 minutes.
  • Line crockpot with parchment paper.
  • Place dough in crock pot and cook on high for 1 – 1 1/2 hours.

  • You will need to lift bread out with the parchment paper to see if the bottom is browning.
  • When bottom is browning, place loaf under broiler for a couple of minutes to brown top.

That’s it! Enjoy the fruits of your labor with a nice side of honey butter – that’s our favorite topping! But of course, you can use it however you want, including sandwiches, toast and more doughy goodness!  This is a process that is so easy, you could do it daily (like we need) if your family loves and wants your homemade loving touch. 🙂

    Do you need to let this rise at all before placing in the slow cooker?

      It should rise as it slowly bakes – but you could if you want it bigger.

    Thanks for this recipe.
    I had 2 attempts. Both were successful.
    On the first attempt I used my small slow cooker (CR046X) and the cooker turned out to be too small. Because the dough was risen just against the lid. The bread didn’t suffer though. It came out tasty and beautiful anyway. See result below.

    On my second attempt I used my larger slow cooker (CR507) and the recipe was a perfect fit for it. The dough had risen to just 2 – 3 centimeters under the lid.
