It’s the SECOND TO LAST DAY – YIPEE!! That means we only have two more challenges left – today’s and tomorrow’s! You are going to love these final two areas as they are probably the most regularly used in most homes…… Let’s get on with today’s!
Day #29 Challenge – Organize Laundry Room
Yep, you didn’t think we would forget about this lovely area – the area that every mom and dad loves to spend hours in and working with. I can tell you – laundry is my favorite chore…. NOT. 🙂 I also have a family of 7, including 3 little girls that love to change several times a day and not put clothes back, but in hampers… or they pull a bunch of stuff out of their drawers and instead of folding and putting back – just pick them up off the floor and toss in the laundry. Yep, my favorite thing is to see the laundry I just washed back in the laundry.
I have honestly now put my older two girls to work on the laundry so they can feel my pain and why I get “bent out of shape” finding clean laundry in the laundry. They are starting to understand how much work it is and being a bit more respectful of that clean laundry.
Well, along with clean laundry staying clean until worn for reals, is a clean and organized laundry room.
So here’s my before pictures of my laundry room:
Right cupboard before
Left cupboard before
Machines before
It was pretty straight forward – I tried to have some sort of method to my organization. Right cupboard on top stores my soap bars for homemade laundry soap, homemade hand soap and other DIY purposes, along with a ziploc that has lots of laundry samples that we share with traveling guests, when we are traveling, etc. That seems to make sense. The bigger shelf houses the more rare laundry items – at home dry clean kit, DIY stain remover and more.
Right cupboard after
For the middle and left sections, I had a blue storage bucket from IKEA that I ended up putting all my rags in that has been sitting on my dryer. So I realized that I was not utilizing the cupboard space in the middle well. I removed the shelf and the rag bucket fit perfectly. Then the open space is my cleaning gloves and essential oils for cleaning (and some laundry purposes). The left has the items I use pretty much every load or when I make new laundry soap.
How is your challenge going? What did you do to solve an organization issue?

Hello!
I’ve been following your blog for awhile now. And yours is very easy to understand that you’re both very committed and love what you do and love to share it. It’s obvious that you want othes to gain knowledge as well as becoming as frugal as possible. Our money is spread a lot thinner thess days.
I do have a rather large question to ask and to hear your thoughts on my situation.
My current “roadblock”, I’ll call it, has been being unable to get through some bad emotional issues with a breakup of an 18 year marriage and losing my home of 24 years to foreclosure in 2012. I was already separated from my now ex husband, (not an easy divorce in any sense of the word). I suffer frolm major depression, anxiety and panic attacks to where it’s left me unable to work any longer. I also had the illness of PTSD added on top of the other illnesses in the past year. What has happenecd is that I have not been able to re-start or re-group my life at all yet. I’ve not unpacked a huge majority of what’s in my place I live in now. Even after things were divided between us. I’ve been here since August 2012 , and it looks as if I’ve just got here and haven’t done a thing. I’m asking if you know of any organization that helps people like me who are so depressed that they’re paralyzed over doing such an enormous job. I live in the Midwest. Just 20 miles east of St Louis, Mo. I have no one that can or has offered to even help me. I desperately need help and I’ve tried to start things and can’t. I’m embarrassed to say that. I’ve never needed so much help in my life. I always worked full time and had an active life until 2006 when I felt myself slipping into something I didn’t recognize. Depression had set in and has stayed ever since. And honestly, i’m afraid if this continues i’m going to fall further and further back. And I can’t have that happen. It’s just me and my Golden Retriever, who I love more than anyone. They’ve all abandoned me. And i’m asking if you have any suggestions or know of anyone that could be contacted for help. I’m only 53, but this last year has had some huge traumatic events that have pushed me back farther than I have been. Thank you for reading this. It was hard for me to do. And I chose you to ask because I feel you’re both very “real” in what you do and with your family. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Hank you again for listening. ❤

You might try calling the Chamber of Commerce, and give them a brief summary of your situation, and ask if they know of anyone who could help you get organized. Another thing you can do that I have done, is if you have any friends, maybe four of you could get together in once a week go to each other’s house to help with a project. If I was closer to you I would be there in a heartbeat. I wish you lots of luck.
