We are excited to be teaming up with our good friend Jodi from My SLC Mommy to bring you the Smiths deals each week. Smiths is a Kroger affiliate store and many/most of the deals apply to other Kroger stores as well. Smiths is the second place we shop most often under Super Target (our first grocery shopping store).
Smiths and some affiliates are having a case lot sale. A little secret from us is that we rarely shop case lots sales. Why?
- Most of the items in the cases we can get for a better price when coupled with a sale and coupon and putting together our own cases this way.
- Most cases of foods you cannot use coupons on as they are typically a different UPC code than what is accepted on the coupon. There are exceptions and sometimes coupons will be accepted (for example, the Libby’s Veggies have coupons out and we have heard of many having success on using them on the case to get them for FREE this week!! We will be getting this case of food!).
- It is mostly generic that we see offered at our local grocery stores and the case price is typically the same or more than buying the name-brand equivalent with a coupon/sale. For example, many generic soups will be around .50 a can (.59 for Kroger at this particular sale). We can get Campbell’s for this price and lower on a regular basis.
There are exceptions for us! We have bought a few cases of food throughout the year. The main item we always pick up in a case lot sale is honey! Honey is a very difficult food item to get a good deal on! Cases are the best way that we have discovered to buy them and we use a lot of honey! When determining when to buy a case of food, we will just weigh the cost per item in a case compared to what we have gotten it before in the past with sales/coupons to see if there is any other cases that we would get.
We would love to hear your thoughts on buying in cases. Do you find a certain item is always by far cheaper in a case?
With that being said, here are a few of the deals going on this week at Smiths (along with a case lot sale that we hear many Kroger stores are having!) Be sure to see the full list at My SLC Mommy.
